High Tea For Gr 7 Ladies

On Monday and Tuesday afternoon, Grade 7 class teachers, Mrs Hanli Rose-Innes and Mrs Jenny Nel, treated the young Grade 7 ladies to tea at the Drostdy Hotel.
Dressed in their finery, the girls enjoyed tea and treats while having a lively discussion about proper manners and etiquette.
Union extends its grateful thanks to the Drostdy Hotel Graaff-Reinet for hosting the girls, Mrs Cheryl Waddelow of Pick n Pay for the donation of cakes and pastéis de nata and Mrs Vanessa Copeman for the beautiful bouquets of flowers presented to each teacher.
We also extend our thanks to the class teachers for treating the girls to this lovely afternoon.

Gr 7s Introduced To Cape Malay Cuisine

As part of the Term 3 curriculum, Union High School’s Grade 7s are learning about the colonisation of the Cape in the 17th and 18th centuries.

This week the learners learned about slavery and, in particular, the heritage left by the Cape Malay slave community.

To this day, we still use many Malay words and have adopted many Malay dishes as authentic South African cuisine.

As many of the learners have never tasted Bobotie or samosas, Mrs Hanli Rose-Innes thought it a good idea to introduce them to these tasty dishes.

Union extends a grateful word of thanks to Jade Palmer’s mom, Lecinda, and Alexander Anthony’s mom, Natalie, for preparing the Bobotie and yellow rice and samosas for the learners.
