During Term 2, Union High School, Graaff-Reinet’s Primary English Department (Grades 5, 6 and 7) embarked on an exciting educational journey by hosting a spelling contest designed to enhance the vocabulary and comprehension skills of their learners.
The contest began with the distribution of spelling lists at the start of the term. Learners were instructed to mark off a few words each week, which they were required to learn for homework every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. The highlight of this term-long endeavour was the spelling contest, where learners showcased their learning and competed for top honours. The competition culminated in recognizing the best spellers in each grade, with winners receiving well-deserved cash prizes.
