HOCKEY RESULTS

We would like to extend our sincerest congratulations to Union’s 2nd XI on their hard-fought match against Burgersdorp’s 1st team. 𝘠𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘥𝘦𝘥𝘪𝘤𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯, 𝘴𝘱𝘰𝘳𝘵𝘴𝘮𝘢𝘯𝘴𝘩𝘪𝘱, 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘵𝘦𝘯𝘢𝘤𝘪𝘵𝘺 𝘪𝘯𝘴𝘱𝘪𝘳𝘦 𝘶𝘴 𝘢𝘭𝘭 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘱𝘳𝘰𝘷𝘦 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘷𝘪𝘤𝘵𝘰𝘳𝘪𝘦𝘴 𝘢𝘳𝘦𝘯’𝘵 𝘫𝘶𝘴𝘵 𝘮𝘦𝘢𝘴𝘶𝘳𝘦𝘥 𝘣𝘺 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘧𝘪𝘯𝘢𝘭 𝘴𝘤𝘰𝘳𝘦. 𝗪𝗲𝗹𝗹 𝗱𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗕𝘂𝗿𝗴𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗱𝗼𝗿𝗽 𝗴𝗶𝗿𝗹𝘀 𝗼𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗶𝗿 𝟰 – 𝟬 𝘃𝗶𝗰𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘆.

A 𝗪𝗢𝗡𝗗𝗘𝗥𝗙𝗨𝗟 𝗣𝗘𝗥𝗙𝗢𝗥𝗠𝗔𝗡𝗖𝗘 by our u/16A hockey team as they dominated the field against Burgersdorp’s 2nd XI, winning the match 4-1! Goal after goal, our team proved their mettle with exceptional teamwork and sportsmanship. Congratulations to the girls on this well-deserved victory!

RUGBY RESULTS

Congratulations to our 𝟭𝗦𝗧 𝗫𝗩 on a well-earned 10 – 7 victory against Burgersdorp! 𝘐𝘵 𝘸𝘢𝘴 𝘢 𝘵𝘰𝘶𝘨𝘩 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘱𝘩𝘺𝘴𝘪𝘤𝘢𝘭 𝘨𝘢𝘮𝘦, 𝘣𝘶𝘵 𝘺𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘥𝘦𝘵𝘦𝘳𝘮𝘪𝘯𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘨𝘳𝘪𝘵 𝘯𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘳 𝘸𝘢𝘷𝘦𝘳𝘦𝘥. Your school community is incredibly proud of you all!

An epic battle on the field as our U/15A’s fought their hearts out, resulting in a 12-all draw against their worthy opponents. Congratulations to our home side for their impressive performance and never-give-up attitude!

We are soo proud of our u/14A boys who gave their best in their encounter against Burgersdorp to claim a 32 – 19 𝗩𝗜𝗖𝗧𝗢𝗥𝗬!

This weekend saw a thrilling set of hockey matches between the St Michael’s School for Girls and Union High School, Graaff-Reinet being played on Saturday, 27 May, at the Union High School AstroTurf.

The match between the two schools’ 1st teams, saw the Union side dominate the game from start to finish. The team demonstrated their skill and teamwork as they scored 3 fantastic goals, securing a well-deserved 3-0 victory.

𝙐𝙣𝙞𝙤𝙣’𝙨 2𝙣𝙙 𝙩𝙚𝙖𝙢 𝙖𝙡𝙨𝙤 𝙥𝙪𝙩 𝙤𝙣 𝙖 𝙙𝙤𝙢𝙞𝙣𝙖𝙣𝙩 𝙥𝙚𝙧𝙛𝙤𝙧𝙢𝙖𝙣𝙘𝙚, 𝙨𝙚𝙘𝙪𝙧𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙖 4-1 𝙬𝙞𝙣 𝙤𝙫𝙚𝙧 𝙩𝙝𝙚𝙞𝙧 𝙤𝙥𝙥𝙤𝙣𝙚𝙣𝙩𝙨. The team displayed excellent coordination and teamwork throughout the game, with players supporting and encouraging one another, resulting in a deserved victory.

Meanwhile, Union’s u/16A team enjoyed a tight match and managed to secure a 1-0 win. The team demonstrated exemplary sportsmanship and worked tirelessly to win, holding off their opponents to earn a valuable victory.

Despite a valiant effort, Union’s u/14A team had a tough match and lost 3-0. The team showed admirable resilience and determination, but could not turn their efforts into a win.

We have just received news that Union High School, Graaff-Reinet u/13A rugby player, 𝗢𝘄𝗲𝗻 𝗣𝗮𝘅𝘁𝗼𝗻, has been included in the 2023 Eastern Province u/13 Craven Week team.

We are incredibly excited to be able to congratulate Grade 7 learners 𝗠𝗶𝗮 𝗕𝗼𝘁𝗵𝗮 and 𝗢𝗻𝗶𝗸𝗮 𝗝𝗮𝗻𝘁𝗷𝗶𝗲𝘀 on being selected for the Eastern Province u/13A hockey team!

We also extend a word of congratulations to Antonia Adams on making the EP u/13B side!

This past Saturday, 20 May, saw our junior hockey teams travel to Gqeberha to participate against Herbert Hurd Primary School.

𝘐𝘵 𝘸𝘢𝘴 𝘢𝘯 𝘢𝘣𝘴𝘰𝘭𝘶𝘵𝘦 𝘫𝘰𝘺 𝘵𝘰 𝘸𝘢𝘵𝘤𝘩 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘮 𝘪𝘮𝘮𝘦𝘳𝘴𝘦 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘮𝘴𝘦𝘭𝘷𝘦𝘴 𝘪𝘯 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘧𝘶𝘯 𝘰𝘧 𝘴𝘤𝘩𝘰𝘰𝘭 𝘩𝘰𝘤𝘬𝘦𝘺.

Congratulations to all the teams on excellent results: the u/11A side won their match 4-0, the u/13B side won 1-0 and the u/13A side claimed a 3-0 victory!

HOCKEY RESULTS

Union High School, Graaff-Reinet’s hockey teams were met with fierce opposition this morning (Saturday, 20 May) when they faced off against Woodridge College & Preparatory School at home.

𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘨𝘪𝘳𝘭𝘴 𝘨𝘢𝘷𝘦 𝘪𝘵 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘪𝘳 𝘢𝘭𝘭 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘸𝘦 𝘤𝘰𝘯𝘨𝘳𝘢𝘵𝘶𝘭𝘢𝘵𝘦 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘮 𝘰𝘯 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘪𝘳 𝘦𝘧𝘧𝘰𝘳𝘵𝘴 𝘰𝘯 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘈𝘴𝘵𝘳𝘰𝘛𝘶𝘳𝘧!

RUGBY RESULTS

The last match of the day, that of the two 𝟭𝗦𝗧 𝗫𝗩𝘀, saw the Union High School, Graaff-Reinet team get off to a flying start, converting a penalty within the first five minutes of the game.

The next penalty came through a break by Camran Swartz – although Union was unable to score, they were soon awarded another penalty, which was converted by Hlaki Skepe, taking the score to 6 – 0 in Union’s favour.

A great line-out maul once again led to a penalty, taking the score to 9-0 in Union’s favour. At that time, Union seemed to have control of the game and their confidence was high. Woodridge, however, managed to get themselves back in the game by scoring a try and successfully converting it, but through a massive break by Jude Langmead, Union once again extended their lead with a try, to have the points tally standing at 16-7 in Union’s favour at half time.

Union once again dominated the game at the start of the second half. The Union team converted another penalty, taking their lead to 19-7. Although it looked like Union had the game in the bag at that time, Woodridge stepped up to decrease Union’s lead with a try from their side.

Hlaki Skepe then converted another penalty for Union, but due to poor defense from the Union side, Woodridge slipped in another try, resulting in Union losing the match 22 points to Woodridge’s 26.

𝘞𝘦𝘭𝘭 𝘥𝘰𝘯𝘦 𝘵𝘰 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘞𝘰𝘰𝘥𝘳𝘪𝘥𝘨𝘦 𝘴𝘪𝘥𝘦!

We can’t let this day slip by without acknowledging our 𝗨/𝟭𝟲𝗔 𝗥𝗨𝗚𝗕𝗬 𝗧𝗘𝗔𝗠’s superb 40-12 victory against Woodridge College this past Saturday, 20 May.

U/15A rugby team

This team has been on the winning path since starting their high school rugby careers together in the u/14A side. They look to be continuing this winning streak this year and have recently enjoyed another two solid victories.

The team beat 𝗦𝘁𝗶𝗿𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗛𝗶𝗴𝗵 𝗦𝗰𝗵𝗼𝗼𝗹 on Saturday, 13 May, 7 – 3, and then claimed a 34 – 14 victory against 𝗪𝗼𝗼𝗱𝗿𝗶𝗱𝗴𝗲 𝗖𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗴𝗲 this past Saturday, 20 May.

𝘛𝘩𝘦𝘴𝘦 𝘷𝘪𝘤𝘵𝘰𝘳𝘪𝘦𝘴 𝘢𝘳𝘦 𝘢 𝘥𝘪𝘳𝘦𝘤𝘵 𝘳𝘦𝘴𝘶𝘭𝘵 𝘰𝘧 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘪𝘳 𝘤𝘰𝘮𝘮𝘪𝘵𝘮𝘦𝘯𝘵 𝘵𝘰 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘪𝘳 𝘱𝘳𝘢𝘤𝘵𝘪𝘤𝘦𝘴 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘸𝘦 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘯𝘬 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘮 𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘱𝘶𝘵𝘵𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘪𝘯 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘩𝘢𝘳𝘥 𝘺𝘢𝘳𝘥𝘴 𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘳𝘺 𝘥𝘢𝘺.

We’d like to conclude the reports about the weekend by congratulating the 𝟮𝗡𝗗 𝗫𝗩 on their 15 – 11 win against their visiting counterparts.

Representing your school is always a major honour, but reaching the incredible milestone of 50 first team caps is something that does not come around too often.

Two members of the Union High School, Graaff-Reinet’s 1st hockey team received the incredible honour of taking to the field in their 50th match for their school!

Prior to their encounter against Woodridge College on Saturday, 20 May, 𝗟𝗲𝗮𝗵 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝗮𝗶𝘀 and captain 𝗕𝗿𝗶𝗴𝗲𝘁𝘁𝗲 𝗢𝗲𝗹𝗼𝗳𝘀𝗲𝗻 were presented with their official 50 cap certificate as well as a small gift on behalf of the team in which they have so valiantly served over the past 3 years.
