Union High School, Graaff-Reinet’s annual 𝗔𝗻𝗻𝗲 𝗕𝗲𝗮𝗴𝗹𝗲𝘆 𝗝𝘂𝗻𝗶𝗼𝗿 𝗥𝘂𝗴𝗯𝘆 & 𝗛𝗼𝗰𝗸𝗲𝘆 𝗙𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗮𝗹 has become a one-of-a-kind event, renowned for placing equal emphasis on quality competition and fostering friendships among young athletes.

𝘛𝘩𝘪𝘴 𝘶𝘯𝘪𝘲𝘶𝘦 𝘧𝘦𝘴𝘵𝘪𝘷𝘢𝘭 𝘣𝘳𝘪𝘯𝘨𝘴 𝘵𝘰𝘨𝘦𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘳 𝘶/13𝘈 𝘳𝘶𝘨𝘣𝘺 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘩𝘰𝘤𝘬𝘦𝘺 𝘵𝘦𝘢𝘮𝘴 𝘧𝘳𝘰𝘮 𝘢𝘤𝘳𝘰𝘴𝘴 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘤𝘰𝘶𝘯𝘵𝘳𝘺 𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘵𝘩𝘳𝘦𝘦 𝘥𝘢𝘺𝘴 𝘰𝘧 𝘵𝘰𝘱-𝘯𝘰𝘵𝘤𝘩 𝘫𝘶𝘯𝘪𝘰𝘳 𝘴𝘱𝘰𝘳𝘵𝘴 𝘢𝘤𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯, 𝘢𝘭𝘭 𝘴𝘦𝘵 𝘢𝘨𝘢𝘪𝘯𝘴𝘵 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘴𝘵𝘶𝘯𝘯𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘣𝘢𝘤𝘬𝘥𝘳𝘰𝘱 𝘰𝘧 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘒𝘢𝘳𝘰𝘰 𝘭𝘢𝘯𝘥𝘴𝘤𝘢𝘱𝘦.

Union High School, Graaff-Reinet’s annual junior sports fest began in grand style with the traditional cocktail. 𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘯𝘵 𝘴𝘦𝘵 𝘢 𝘧𝘦𝘴𝘵𝘪𝘷𝘦 𝘵𝘰𝘯𝘦, 𝘣𝘳𝘪𝘯𝘨𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘵𝘰𝘨𝘦𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘳 𝘱𝘢𝘳𝘵𝘪𝘤𝘪𝘱𝘢𝘯𝘵𝘴, 𝘴𝘶𝘱𝘱𝘰𝘳𝘵𝘦𝘳𝘴 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘰𝘳𝘨𝘢𝘯𝘪𝘴𝘦𝘳𝘴 𝘪𝘯 𝘤𝘦𝘭𝘦𝘣𝘳𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯.

The school’s headmaster, Mr William Pringle, delivered a heartfelt speech, expressing gratitude to all visitors for their attendance and to everyone who contributed to the event’s meticulous planning. 𝗔 𝘀𝗽𝗲𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗮𝗰𝗸𝗻𝗼𝘄𝗹𝗲𝗱𝗴𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝘄𝗮𝘀 𝗮𝗹𝘀𝗼 𝗴𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗻 𝘁𝗼 𝘀𝗽𝗼𝗻𝘀𝗼𝗿𝘀 Astron Energy Eastern Cape 𝗮𝗻𝗱 Botha’s Garage, 𝘄𝗵𝗼 𝗽𝗹𝗮𝘆𝗲𝗱 𝗮 𝘃𝗶𝘁𝗮𝗹 𝗿𝗼𝗹𝗲 𝗶𝗻 𝘀𝘂𝗽𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗳𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗮𝗹.

The evening was made even more special by the exceptional efforts of the Union moms, who once again outdid themselves in hosting a memorable function. 𝘞𝘦 𝘦𝘹𝘵𝘦𝘯𝘥 𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘴𝘪𝘯𝘤𝘦𝘳𝘦 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘯𝘬𝘴 𝘵𝘰 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘮 𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘪𝘳 𝘥𝘦𝘥𝘪𝘤𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘩𝘢𝘳𝘥 𝘸𝘰𝘳𝘬.

This cocktail evening was a fitting start to what promises to be an exciting and successful sports fest, highlighting the community spirit and enthusiasm that define the Union Schools community.

It is with immense gratitude that we extend our thanks to all the teams, coaches, managers, staff, learners and parents who helped make this year’s event a wonderful success.

𝗧𝗵𝗲𝘆’𝘃𝗲 𝗯𝗲𝗲𝗻 𝗸𝗶𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗶𝗿 𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆 𝗼𝘄𝗻 𝗰𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗺 𝗰𝗵𝗲𝘀𝘀-𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗼𝗽𝘀 and gifted with chess backpacks.

On 12 June, Union High School, Graaff-Reinet’s primary department hosted a spectacular music evening, themed “𝗖𝗵𝗿𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗺𝗮𝘀 𝗶𝗻 𝗝𝘂𝗻𝗲”.

The school hall was a sight to behold, thanks to the meticulous decorations by dedicated Union moms Amori van Jaarsveld and Karen Scott. 𝘛𝘩𝘦𝘪𝘳 𝘩𝘢𝘳𝘥 𝘸𝘰𝘳𝘬 𝘤𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘵𝘦𝘥 𝘢 𝘧𝘦𝘴𝘵𝘪𝘷𝘦 𝘢𝘵𝘮𝘰𝘴𝘱𝘩𝘦𝘳𝘦 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘱𝘦𝘳𝘧𝘦𝘤𝘵𝘭𝘺 𝘤𝘰𝘮𝘱𝘭𝘦𝘮𝘦𝘯𝘵𝘦𝘥 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘯𝘪𝘯𝘨’𝘴 𝘮𝘶𝘴𝘪𝘤𝘢𝘭 𝘱𝘳𝘰𝘨𝘳𝘢𝘮𝘮𝘦.

From the first note to the last, the vocalists, pianists, choristers and percussionists enthralled the audience with beautiful Christmas carols. The familiar melodies, imbued with the spirit of the season, brought warmth and joy to everyone present. 𝙏𝙝𝙚 𝙥𝙚𝙧𝙛𝙤𝙧𝙢𝙖𝙣𝙘𝙚𝙨 𝙨𝙝𝙤𝙬𝙘𝙖𝙨𝙚𝙙 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙩𝙖𝙡𝙚𝙣𝙩 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙙𝙚𝙙𝙞𝙘𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣 𝙤𝙛 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙡𝙚𝙖𝙧𝙣𝙚𝙧𝙨, 𝙩𝙧𝙖𝙣𝙨𝙥𝙤𝙧𝙩𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙩𝙝𝙚𝙢 𝙩𝙤 𝙖 𝙬𝙤𝙧𝙡𝙙 𝙤𝙛 𝘾𝙝𝙧𝙞𝙨𝙩𝙢𝙖𝙨 𝙘𝙝𝙚𝙚𝙧 𝙞𝙣 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙝𝙚𝙖𝙧𝙩 𝙤𝙛 𝙅𝙪𝙣𝙚.

It was truly an unforgettable evening, proving once again that music has the power to bring people together and celebrate the magic of the season, regardless of the time of year.

𝗪𝗲 𝗲𝘅𝘁𝗲𝗻𝗱 𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗵𝗲𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗳𝗲𝗹𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗸𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝗠𝗿𝘀 𝗦𝗮𝗻𝗲𝘁𝘁𝗲 𝗕𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗸 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝘄𝗵𝗼 𝗮𝘀𝘀𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝗵𝗲𝗿 in orchestrating this wonderful event. Your hard work and dedication made this magical night possible!

Congratulations to Union High School, Graaff-Reinet learners Joy Merifield, in Grade 12, and Lisa McEwan, in Grade 5, on claiming the 2nd places in the Karoo Winter Wool Festival’s 𝗢𝗩𝗞 𝗔𝗥𝗧 𝗖𝗢𝗠𝗣𝗘𝗧𝗜𝗧𝗜𝗢𝗡’s high school and primary school categories, respectively

Their artistic talent has earned them a well-deserved prize of R5 000 each and an additional R5 000 each for the school!

Union High School, Graaff-Reinet recently had the privilege of concluding Term 2 by paying tribute to some of its 𝗟𝗢𝗡𝗚-𝗦𝗘𝗥𝗩𝗜𝗡𝗚 𝗦𝗧𝗔𝗙𝗙 𝗠𝗘𝗠𝗕𝗘𝗥𝗦.

Among those honoured were ground staff members 𝗠𝗿 𝗚𝗮𝘃𝗶𝗻 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝗹𝗼𝘄, 𝗠𝗿 𝗧𝗿𝗲𝘃𝗼𝗿 𝗭𝗮𝗹𝗶 and 𝗠𝗿 𝗗𝗮𝘃𝗶𝗱 (𝗡𝗶𝗲𝗹) 𝗠𝗲𝘆𝗲𝗿, each of whom have dedicated a decade of their lives to the school.

Additionally, much-loved junior school educator 𝗠𝗿𝘀 𝗟𝗼𝘂𝗶𝘀𝗲 𝗩𝗼𝗿𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗿 and our diligent estate manager 𝗠𝗿 𝗗𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹𝗱 𝗞𝗶𝗻𝗴𝘄𝗶𝗹𝗹 were recognized for their exceptional commitment, having served the school for an impressive 25 years.

Their loyalty and dedication have played a significant role in shaping the school’s environment and fostering its growth over the years.

It is with profound sadness that we learned of the passing of 𝗠𝗿 𝗦𝘁𝗲𝗽𝗵𝗲𝗻 𝗕𝗲𝘇𝘂𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗻𝗵𝗼𝘂𝘁 a cherished member of the Union Schools community today.

Mr Bez, as he was fondly known, was not only a dedicated teacher and coach, but also a devoted parent of our school. 𝘏𝘪𝘴 𝘸𝘢𝘳𝘮𝘵𝘩, 𝘩𝘶𝘮𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘨𝘦𝘯𝘶𝘪𝘯𝘦 𝘤𝘢𝘳𝘦 𝘵𝘰𝘶𝘤𝘩𝘦𝘥 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘭𝘪𝘷𝘦𝘴 𝘰𝘧 𝘤𝘰𝘶𝘯𝘵𝘭𝘦𝘴𝘴 𝘭𝘦𝘢𝘳𝘯𝘦𝘳𝘴, 𝘤𝘰𝘭𝘭𝘦𝘢𝘨𝘶𝘦𝘴 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘧𝘢𝘮𝘪𝘭𝘪𝘦𝘴.

He was a true pillar of our community and his absence will be deeply felt.

Our hearts go out to his wife, Trudi, their beloved daughters, Amber and Chanté, and the rest of his extended family. We offer them our deepest condolences and pray for strength and comfort during this difficult time.
