Rising Stars Tennis Tournament

This past Sunday, 23 July, 8 junior tennis players represented Union High School, Graaff-Reinet at the Sarah Baartman leg of the 𝗥𝗜𝗦𝗜𝗡𝗚 𝗦𝗧𝗔𝗥𝗦 𝗧𝗘𝗡𝗡𝗜𝗦 𝗧𝗢𝗨𝗥𝗡𝗔𝗠𝗘𝗡𝗧 in Makhanda.

𝗥𝗲𝗽𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗨𝗻𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝘄𝗲𝗿𝗲: (boys) Owen Paxton, John-Henry King, Ethan Raath, Brett Kenmuir, (girls) Mia Botha, Nadine Murray, Cayla Newton and Amelia King.

𝘽𝙮 𝙖𝙡𝙡 𝙖𝙘𝙘𝙤𝙪𝙣𝙩𝙨 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙠𝙞𝙙𝙨 𝙬𝙚𝙧𝙚 𝙬𝙤𝙣𝙙𝙚𝙧𝙛𝙪𝙡 𝙖𝙢𝙗𝙖𝙨𝙨𝙖𝙙𝙤𝙧𝙨 𝙞𝙣 𝙗𝙤𝙩𝙝 𝙩𝙝𝙚𝙞𝙧 𝙚𝙣𝙩𝙝𝙪𝙨𝙞𝙖𝙨𝙢 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙗𝙚𝙝𝙖𝙫𝙞𝙤𝙪𝙧.

The girls’ section was won by DSG, followed by the Union team in second place, while the boys’ section was won by Union, followed by Volkskool in second place.

SENIOR HOCKEY

On Friday afternoon, 21 July, Union High School, Graaff-Reinet’s 1st team hockey girls embarked on an exciting outing to Makhanda.

Upon their arrival, they faced off against Kingswood College, unfortunately losing 2 – 1.

𝘾𝙤𝙣𝙩𝙞𝙣𝙪𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙨𝙥𝙞𝙧𝙞𝙩 𝙤𝙛 𝙘𝙤𝙢𝙥𝙚𝙩𝙞𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣, on Saturday, our 1st team girls took on DSG in another intense battle. Despite their best efforts, they narrowly lost with a score of 1 – 0. We want to acknowledge their hard work and determination throughout the match.

Accompanying our 1st team were the u/14A and u/16A teams, who showed great promise in their respective encounters.

Win or lose, what matters most is the passion and commitment our teams bring to the game. We want to congratulate all the girls for their performances and their unwavering dedication to the sport

A triumphant day for Union High School, Graaff-Reinet’s junior 𝗛𝗢𝗖𝗞𝗘𝗬 teams as the u/13A dominates with a remarkable 3 – 0 victory over Clarendon Park Primary School. The u/13B side showcases their resilience with a hard-fought 0 – 0 draw, while the u/11A side triumphs with an impressive 2 – 0 win.

𝗖𝗢𝗡𝗚𝗥𝗔𝗧𝗨𝗟𝗔𝗧𝗜𝗢𝗡𝗦 to junior rugby players 𝗠𝗯𝘂𝘀𝗼 𝗧𝗶𝗻𝗶, 𝗝𝗼𝗿𝗱𝗮𝗻 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝗶𝘁𝘇 and 𝗞𝗵𝗮𝘇𝗶𝗺𝗹𝗮 𝗝𝗮𝗻𝘁𝗷𝗶𝗲𝘀, on being included in the u/12 Karoo rugby side that will be participating in the Sub-Union Rugby Tournament (𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘧𝘪𝘳𝘴𝘵 𝘳𝘰𝘶𝘯𝘥 𝘰𝘧 𝘵𝘳𝘪𝘢𝘭𝘴 𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘌𝘢𝘴𝘵𝘦𝘳𝘯 𝘗𝘳𝘰𝘷𝘪𝘯𝘤𝘦) being held at Hoër Volkskool on Friday and Saturday, 28 August and 29 July.

U/13A Hockey Team Attends Coaching Tournament

𝗖𝗢𝗡𝗚𝗥𝗔𝗧𝗨𝗟𝗔𝗧𝗜𝗢𝗡𝗦 to Union High School, Graaff-Reinet’s u/13A hockey team on their successful participation in the Elsie Coetzer Hockey School (ECHS) coaching tournament held in Bloemfontein from 14 to 16 July.

𝘖𝘷𝘦𝘳 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘤𝘰𝘶𝘳𝘴𝘦 𝘰𝘧 𝘵𝘩𝘳𝘦𝘦 𝘥𝘢𝘺𝘴, 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘨𝘪𝘳𝘭𝘴 𝘱𝘢𝘳𝘵𝘪𝘤𝘪𝘱𝘢𝘵𝘦𝘥 𝘪𝘯 𝘢 𝘵𝘰𝘵𝘢𝘭 𝘰𝘧 𝘴𝘪𝘹 𝘮𝘢𝘵𝘤𝘩𝘦𝘴.

The team triumphed over Pretoria’s Anton van Wouw’s u/12A side with an impressive 5-0 victory in their first match.

Their next match against Schweizer-Reneke (which they lost 1-7), may not have ended in their favour, but their resilience and never-give-up attitude for the rest of the tournament were truly commendable and resulted in them securing victories in all of their remaining matches.

They triumphed over Oranje Primary School’s u/12A’s with a hard-fought 1-0 win, showcasing their ability to excel under pressure. The girls continued to dominate the field, securing a convincing 4-0 victory against ECHS JD, a 2-0 win against Oranje Primary School’s u/13B’s, and another well-deserved 4-0 victory against Lumiere Primary School.

The girls also enjoyed several coaching sessions conducted by the ECHS coaches throughout the weekend, which provided valuable insights, correct technique, and personalized feedback, helping players refine their skills and improve their overall game.

Senior Rugby Results vs Graeme College

On Friday, 16 June, Union High School, Graaff-Reinet’s rugby teams played their much-anticipated annual derby against Graeme College.

𝘈𝘴 𝘢𝘭𝘸𝘢𝘺𝘴, 𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘴 𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘯𝘵 𝘸𝘢𝘴 𝘤𝘩𝘢𝘳𝘢𝘤𝘵𝘢𝘳𝘪𝘴𝘦𝘥 𝘣𝘺 𝘩𝘦𝘢𝘭𝘵𝘩𝘺 𝘤𝘰𝘮𝘱𝘦𝘵𝘪𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯 𝘶𝘯𝘥𝘦𝘳𝘱𝘪𝘯𝘯𝘦𝘥 𝘣𝘺 𝘤𝘰𝘮𝘳𝘢𝘥𝘦𝘴𝘩𝘪𝘱 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘮𝘶𝘵𝘶𝘢𝘭 𝘳𝘦𝘴𝘱𝘦𝘤𝘵 𝘣𝘦𝘵𝘸𝘦𝘦𝘯 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘵𝘸𝘰 𝘴𝘤𝘩𝘰𝘰𝘭𝘴.

Despite Union’s valiant efforts, Graeme College owned the field, winning nine out of the derby’s ten contests, with their 1st XV concluding the day’s play with a 43-3 victory.

Union’s u/11A team, however, was the shining highlight of the day, winning 26-10. Kudos to all the u/11 players who fearlessly endured bruises by taking big tackles.

Unfortunately, Union High School’s other teams didn’t achieve the same level of success.

Senior Hockey Results vs Queenstown Girl’s High

We’d like to give a round of applause to Union High School, Graaff-Reinet’s senior hockey girls for their performance against Queenstown Girls’ High School on Youth Day!

𝘐𝘵 𝘸𝘢𝘴 𝘴𝘶𝘤𝘩 𝘢 𝘨𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘵 𝘥𝘢𝘺 𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘩𝘰𝘤𝘬𝘦𝘺 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘸𝘦’𝘳𝘦 𝘴𝘰 𝘱𝘳𝘰𝘶𝘥 𝘰𝘧 𝘢𝘭𝘭 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘵𝘦𝘢𝘮𝘴 𝘸𝘩𝘰 𝘱𝘭𝘢𝘺𝘦𝘥 𝘵𝘰𝘥𝘢𝘺.

Special mention must be made of Union’s 1st team and the u/16A team who both secured 2-0 victories against their respective counterparts.

The rest of the results saw our 2nd team lose 1-0, the u/16B team draw 0-0 and the u/14A team lose 0-3.

Senior Hockey vs Framesby – Results

𝗖𝗢𝗡𝗚𝗥𝗔𝗧𝗨𝗟𝗔𝗧𝗜𝗢𝗡𝗦 to Union High School, Graaff-Reinet’s 1st XI on their 2-0 win against Hoërskool Framesby in Gqeberha today!

𝗪𝗘𝗟𝗟 𝗗𝗢𝗡𝗘 to the 2nd team for their amazing 6-0 win, and to the U/16A team for their close 1-0 victory.

A 𝗕𝗜𝗚 𝗘𝗙𝗙𝗢𝗥𝗧 by the u/16B team saw their match end with a scoreless draw. Although the u/14As lost 3-0, we applaud the team for their efforts and hard work.

Congratulations to our Union High School, Graaff-Reinet u/11A, u/13B, and u/13A hockey teams on their outstanding performance against Balmoral Primary School in Komani today!

𝙒𝙞𝙩𝙝 𝙜𝙧𝙚𝙖𝙩 𝙥𝙖𝙨𝙨𝙞𝙤𝙣 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙚𝙛𝙛𝙤𝙧𝙩, 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙪/11𝙨 𝙙𝙤𝙢𝙞𝙣𝙖𝙩𝙚𝙙 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙛𝙞𝙚𝙡𝙙 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙬𝙤𝙣 𝙬𝙞𝙩𝙝 𝙖𝙣 𝙞𝙢𝙥𝙧𝙚𝙨𝙨𝙞𝙫𝙚 3-0 𝙨𝙘𝙤𝙧𝙚.

The u/13Bs had an amazing match and were ultimately able to draw 1-1 against their opponents.

And last but not least, the u/13As delivered a great display of teamwork and skill, winning their match 3-0.
