SA Schools’ Swimming Trials

Three talented swimmers from Union High School, Graaff-Reinet – Ben Lemke, Zoรซ Mills and Gerda Clarke – made their mark at the SA Schools’ Swimming Trials in East London this past Saturday, 17 February.

Representing the Sarah Baartman District Team, these athletes competed against formidable opponents, with two of them clinching well-deserved medals.

๐—•๐—ฒ๐—ป ๐—Ÿ๐—ฒ๐—บ๐—ธ๐—ฒ, a standout competitor, impressed in 8 events, achieving great results: 1st place in the 200m Breaststroke and 100m Butterfly, 2nd place in the 200m Freestyle, 50m Breaststroke, and 100m Breaststroke, and 3rd place in the 50m Butterfly.

๐—ญ๐—ผรซ ๐— ๐—ถ๐—น๐—น๐˜€, competed in 7 events and stood out with a medal-winning performance in the 200m Freestyle.

Additionally, Zoรซ also secured 4th place in both the 50m and 200m Breaststroke events.

Union High School, Graaff-Reinet’s young cricket talents made their school very proud this weekend in matches against Saint Andrew’s School, Bloemfontein and Laerskool Frans Conradie.

In an exciting cricket match held at Union High School, Graaff-Reinet earlier today, Thursday, 15 February, the ๐—จ๐Ÿญ๐Ÿฏ๐—” ๐—–๐—ฅ๐—œ๐—–๐—ž๐—˜๐—ง ๐—ง๐—˜๐—”๐—  took to the field against a visiting Cradock side.

The game started with Cradock taking their turn to bat, but they struggled to find momentum, eventually scoring only 40 runs, resulting in all players being dismissed within 16.3 overs.

The final score stood at 364 points for Volkskool and 323 points for Union. It was a fierce battle, and every swimmer from both schools should be commended for their outstanding efforts.

We must give special recognition to Union’s ๐—ง๐—ฎ๐˜†๐—น๐—ผ๐—ฟ ๐—๐—ฎ๐—ฐ๐—ผ๐—ฏ๐˜€, who achieved impressive results in multiple events. Taylor secured 1st place in the 50m Butterfly, Backstroke, Breaststroke and Freestyle races, 4th place in the 100m Freestyle (Grade 5 to 7) race and 2nd place in the u/12 4x25m IM race.

Interhouse Gala

Summer weather and happy learners made for a perfect start to the week as Union High School, Graaff-Reinet enjoyed its annual ๐—œ๐—ก๐—ง๐—˜๐—ฅ๐—›๐—ข๐—จ๐—ฆ๐—˜ ๐—š๐—”๐—Ÿ๐—” for its Grade 5 to 12 swimmers on Monday evening, 5 February.

The year-long rivalry between Arnott House (in blue) and Daly House (in red) was kicked off in fine style, as the young athletes gave it their all in various track and field events.

There were many proud moments and shared joy throughout the day, as the learners cheered on their classmates and showcased their athletic abilities.
