Scout Camp

Camping is one of Scouting’s best known and most loved traditions.
The Union boys affiliated to the Graaff-Reinet Scout Troup left for their annual camp this afternoon.
We hope they have a great time as they pitch their tents, tell stories around the campfire, and experience the great outdoors at its very best.
We’re sure the outing will provide them with many unforgettable moments!

Stepping Up To The Challenge

Union was recently challenged to participate in the ‘Dance of Brave’ challenge.
True to form, our learners rose to the challenge and on Wednesday, 24 November, we recorded them taking on the challenge along to the Ndlovu Youth Choir’s latest song, “We will rise”.
The COVID-19 pandemic has taken its toll these past two years and the road ahead is still long and uncertain. There is a lot of work that lies ahead and every one of us has a role to play.
However, watching our learners do this dance together, was inspirational. There is nothing that unites us quite like singing and dancing together – it’s incredible. And, the kindness and camaraderie that we see in our learners each day brings us such a renewed sense of hope for the future.
We hope this video of our learners’ dance of hope brings you the same joy it has brought us. #BeBraveMzansi!

Resurfacing Of Tennis Courts

When Union’s athletes take to the school’s tennis courts to start off the 2022 season, they will be playing on beautiful, newly reconstructed, playing surfaces.
The resurfacing of the school’s tennis courts kicked off this morning, Wednesday, 17 November, and – in a couple of weeks – will soon be in great shape again, ready to serve the school community!

Palisade Project Underway

At Union High School, keeping our school 𝗦𝗔𝗙𝗘 – along with all the teachers, staff and learners residing inside – is of utmost importance.
We, therefore, recently embarked on a project that will see the school’s perimetre fence along the riverbank replaced with secure palisade fencing.
The total length of this project – which will enhance the security of our campus immensely – spans 600m and will stretch all the way from the corner at Union High School’s AstroTurf, past Herby Arnott House and the Union Preparatory School to the back of Arthur Kingwill House.
We can’t wait to see this project completed and thank our team of groundsmen for their efforts in erecting this fence.

Author Mr Alan Landau, who currently resides in Australia, recently published the sixth and final book in his ‘Langbourne’ series, titled ‘Langbourne’s Legacy’.
Although this book isn’t available in South Africa as yet, Union was extremely fortunate to be gifted two of them by Mr Landau, to complete the two sets of this series he donated to the school in 2019.
We are extremely grateful to Mr Landau for this gesture. The learners have loved following David and Morris Langbourne on their epic African adventure and we’re sure that many are looking forward to – what is sure to be – its epic conclusion.
