Our newly elected 2025/26 prefects attended their much-anticipated ๐ฃ๐ฅ๐๐๐๐๐ง ๐๐๐ ๐ฃ – a weekend dedicated to leadership, learning and loads of fun!
Set in the heart of Addo, at the beautiful Leaders In Life-School and Youth Camps outdoor centre, the group – guided by Mrs Nelia Read and Mr Hanno Sparrius – took part in exciting challenges and activities designed to grow confidence, strengthen teamwork and inspire self-belief.
With this year’s ๐ข๐๐ฌ๐ฆ๐ฆ๐๐ฌ adventure having come to an end, we reflect with gratitude on what a true privilege it has been for our learners to experience nights like these – beneath the breathtaking Karoo sky, with its endless stars, moonlight and the stillness of nature.
After days of challenge, laughter, growth and adventure our Grade 10s returned to campus today to a true heroโs welcome.

This yearโs camp featured a very special guest, ๐ข๐น๐ฑ ๐จ๐ป๐ถ๐ผ๐ป๐ถ๐๐ฒ ๐ ๐ฟ ๐๐ฒ๐ฟ๐ฟ๐ถ๐ ๐๐ฟ๐ถ๐ป๐ธ, who fondly recalled attending his own Grade 11 STEM Camp in 2016. Joining forces with Mr Brink were Mrs Cathy Pringle, Mr Elrich Jantjies and Mr JP Kruger, who all guided and inspired learners throughout the weekend.

They also discovered the basics of how to create their very own AI agent, experimenting with innovative AI tools that unlock creativity and enhance learning.

The Grade 11s applied their classroom mathematics, worked tirelessly through the first stage, and – with determination, teamwork and just a touch of luck – became the first group ever to fully crack the code!

On Tuesday morning, 26 August, Union High Schoolโs Grade 7s pulled out all the stops to host their much-anticipated ๐ ๐ฎ๐ฟ๐ธ๐ฒ๐ ๐๐ฎ๐ – and what a hit it was!
As part of their ๐๐๐ข๐ก๐ข๐ ๐๐ ๐ ๐๐ก๐๐๐๐ ๐๐ก๐ง ๐ฆ๐๐๐๐ก๐๐๐ฆ curriculum, our young entrepreneurs took charge of everything – from advertising and marketing their stalls, to budgeting and tallying profits and losses.
The result? Thursday evening, 21 August, saw the 2025 prefects of Union High School and Hoรซr Volkskool gather at the Graaff-Reinet Bowling Club for their annual ๐๐๐ง-๐ง๐ข๐๐๐ง๐๐๐ฅ.

On the morning of Monday, 18 August, Union High School proudly announced its ๐ฃ๐ฅ๐๐๐๐๐ง ๐๐ข๐๐ฌ for 2026 during a very special assembly in the school hall.
๐ง๐ต๐ฒ ๐ผ๐ฐ๐ฐ๐ฎ๐๐ถ๐ผ๐ป ๐๐ฎ๐ ๐บ๐ฎ๐ฟ๐ธ๐ฒ๐ฑ ๐ฏ๐ ๐ฎ ๐๐ฒ๐ป๐๐ฒ ๐ผ๐ณ ๐๐ฟ๐ฎ๐ฑ๐ถ๐๐ถ๐ผ๐ป ๐ฎ๐ป๐ฑ ๐ฝ๐ฟ๐ถ๐ฑ๐ฒ as the newly elected prefects stepped forward to sign their pledge of service and leadership. Each was then presented with their prefect tie and badge – ๐ด๐บ๐ฎ๐ฃ๐ฐ๐ญ๐ด ๐ฐ๐ง ๐ต๐ฉ๐ฆ ๐ณ๐ฆ๐ด๐ฑ๐ฐ๐ฏ๐ด๐ช๐ฃ๐ช๐ญ๐ช๐ต๐บ ๐ข๐ฏ๐ฅ ๐ต๐ณ๐ถ๐ด๐ต ๐ฏ๐ฐ๐ธ ๐ฑ๐ญ๐ข๐ค๐ฆ๐ฅ ๐ถ๐ฑ๐ฐ๐ฏ ๐ต๐ฉ๐ฆ๐ฎ – which were quickly and proudly donned with the assistance of the outgoing prefects.

Through events like these, they not only teach important social skills but also foster a sense of community and belonging among our girls.
The afternoon’s guest speaker, Mrs Amori Van Jaarsveld, Union mom and proprietor of the Windmill Junction, delivered a beautiful speech that resonated deeply with all the girls.

Her message beautifully wove together the ideals of classiness and boldness, urging the girls to stand tall and unapologetically claim their rightful place in every room they enter.
