Air-rifle shooting has proven to be a popular extra-mural and the number of learners partaking has grown significantly over the years. Our shotists regularly host or travel to compete against neighbouring schools in the Karoo. Accuracy and composure are the order of the day and these are attributes which translate into other areas of school life.
Our approach to sport at Union High School can be encapsulated by the words of the late Mr Nelson Mandela who said, “Sport has the power to change the world. It has the power to inspire, it has the power to unite people in a way that little else does. It speaks to youth in a language they understand. Sport can create hope, where once there was only despair. It is more powerful than governments in breaking down racial barriers. It laughs in the face of all types of discrimination.”
