A total of 80 swimmers represented the Union Preparatory School, Graaff-Reinet and Union High School, Graaff-Reinet at the annual 𝗞𝗔𝗥𝗢𝗢 𝗚𝗔𝗟𝗔 held at Hoër Volkskool on Wednesday, 21 February.
In addition to Union’s spirited participants, teams from Gill, Cradock, Volkskool, Marlow and a group of dedicated home-schoolers showcased their skills in the pool.
The high standard of swimming at this event continues to amaze 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗽𝗼𝘀𝗶𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗲𝘁𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗯𝗲𝘁𝘄𝗲𝗲𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗱 𝘀𝗰𝗵𝗼𝗼𝗹𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗶𝗻𝗱𝗶𝘃𝗶𝗱𝘂𝗮𝗹 𝘀𝘄𝗶𝗺𝗺𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝘄𝗮𝘀 𝗮 𝗽𝗹𝗲𝗮𝘀𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀.
As always, competition was fierce in all events – 106 in total – but Union’s swimmers never gave in, giving their best in all their races.
𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘩𝘪𝘨𝘩𝘭𝘪𝘨𝘩𝘵 𝘰𝘧 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘥𝘢𝘺 𝘸𝘢𝘴 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘵𝘩𝘳𝘪𝘭𝘭𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘳𝘦𝘭𝘢𝘺 𝘳𝘢𝘤𝘦𝘴 𝘢𝘤𝘳𝘰𝘴𝘴 𝘢𝘭𝘭 𝘢𝘨𝘦 𝘨𝘳𝘰𝘶𝘱𝘴, 𝘤𝘢𝘱𝘵𝘪𝘷𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘴𝘱𝘦𝘤𝘵𝘢𝘵𝘰𝘳𝘴 𝘸𝘪𝘵𝘩 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘪𝘳 𝘤𝘭𝘰𝘴𝘦 𝘧𝘪𝘯𝘪𝘴𝘩𝘦𝘴 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘤𝘰𝘮𝘱𝘦𝘵𝘪𝘵𝘪𝘷𝘦 𝘴𝘱𝘪𝘳𝘪𝘵.
In the primary school category, Laer Volkskool secured victory with 408 points, while Union’s Grade 1 to 7 swimmers secured a commendable second place with 346 points. Gill, the Homeschoolers and Cradock Primary School followed closely behind.
Moving to the senior section, Union High School triumphed in the Girls’ section and secured a strong second position in the Boys’ section. Special recognition goes to 𝗕𝗲𝗻 𝗟𝗲𝗺𝗸𝗲 for his outstanding performance earning him the title of ‘Victor Ludorum’.
Union is 𝗩𝗘𝗥𝗬 𝗣𝗥𝗢𝗨𝗗 of all our swimmers who committed and gave their time to swim for their school and would like to thank them for their efforts.
