Anne Beagley Junior Festival 2025

Our 24th edition, once again sponsored by Astron Energy Eastern Cape and Bothaโ€™s Garage, brought together incredible kids, infectious energy and unforgettable moments on and off the field.

Union High School proudly kicked off the annual ๐—”๐—ป๐—ป๐—ฒ ๐—•๐—ฒ๐—ฎ๐—ด๐—น๐—ฒ๐˜† ๐—๐˜‚๐—ป๐—ถ๐—ผ๐—ฟ ๐—ฅ๐˜‚๐—ด๐—ฏ๐˜† & ๐—›๐—ผ๐—ฐ๐—ธ๐—ฒ๐˜† ๐—™๐—ฒ๐˜€๐˜๐—ถ๐˜ƒ๐—ฎ๐—น with its traditional welcoming cocktail function this evening, setting a warm and festive tone for the days ahead.

He expressed his sincere gratitude to everyone who played a role in bringing the festival to life, especially the coaches for their commitment and enthusiasm.

The programme continued with a few words from Mr Dewald Niemand, Cluster Manager at Astron Energy Eastern Cape – the festivalโ€™s anchor sponsor – who echoed the excitement and importance of events like these in supporting young talent.

They charged through the festival with a 4-0 win over Sonop, a 6-0 victory against Gonubie, suffered a narrow 2-1 loss against Sunridge, drew 1-1 with a tough Lorraine side and ended on a high with a 7โ€“0 win against Clarendon’s 2nd team, rounding off what was truly an impressive showing, ๐—ต๐—ถ๐—ด๐—ต๐—น๐—ถ๐—ด๐—ต๐˜๐—ถ๐—ป๐—ด ๐˜๐—ต๐—ฒ ๐—ฑ๐—ฒ๐—ฝ๐˜๐—ต ๐—ฎ๐—ป๐—ฑ ๐—ฟ๐—ฒ๐˜€๐—ถ๐—น๐—ถ๐—ฒ๐—ป๐—ฐ๐—ฒ ๐—ผ๐—ณ ๐˜๐—ต๐—ถ๐˜€ ๐˜๐—ฎ๐—น๐—ฒ๐—ป๐˜๐—ฒ๐—ฑ ๐˜€๐—พ๐˜‚๐—ฎ๐—ฑ.

Our u/13A rugby side, proudly representing the host school at this yearโ€™s ๐—”๐—ป๐—ป๐—ฒ ๐—•๐—ฒ๐—ฎ๐—ด๐—น๐—ฒ๐˜† ๐—™๐—ฒ๐˜€๐˜๐—ถ๐˜ƒ๐—ฎ๐—น, faced a challenging lineup of opponents over the three-day event.

The boys put in a determined effort in their opening match, narrowly losing 15-17 to their Clarendon Park counterparts. The second encounter proved even tougher as they came up against the Grey Bulldogs, eventually going down 14-40 despite some spirited moments of play.
