Today weโre very pleased to welcome Mrs Helen-Mari Wright to Union High School, where she will be teaching History to our Grade 10 – 12 learners and the History component of Social Sciences in Grades 8 and 9.
๐๐ฐ๐ณ ๐๐ณ๐ด ๐๐ณ๐ช๐จ๐ฉ๐ต, ๐ซ๐ฐ๐ช๐ฏ๐ช๐ฏ๐จ ๐ต๐ฉ๐ฆ ๐๐ฏ๐ช๐ฐ๐ฏ ๐ด๐ต๐ข๐ง๐ง ๐ช๐ด ๐ข ๐ญ๐ช๐ต๐ต๐ญ๐ฆ ๐ฃ๐ช๐ต ๐ฐ๐ง ๐ข ๐ณ๐ฆ๐ต๐ถ๐ณ๐ฏ ๐ต๐ฐ ๐ง๐ข๐ฎ๐ช๐ญ๐ช๐ข๐ณ ๐จ๐ณ๐ฐ๐ถ๐ฏ๐ฅ.
A former learner at our neighbouring school, Hoรซr Volkskool, she went on to study at the University of the Free State, where she earned a Master of Arts specialising in History.
๐๐ถ๐๐๐ผ๐ฟ๐ ๐ต๐ฎ๐ ๐ฟ๐ฒ๐บ๐ฎ๐ถ๐ป๐ฒ๐ฑ ๐ฎ๐ ๐๐ต๐ฒ ๐ต๐ฒ๐ฎ๐ฟ๐ ๐ผ๐ณ ๐ต๐ฒ๐ฟ ๐๐ฒ๐ฎ๐ฐ๐ต๐ถ๐ป๐ด ๐ฐ๐ฎ๐ฟ๐ฒ๐ฒ๐ฟ and she brings many years of classroom experience to Union, having taught at Jansenville High since 2016.
Her connection with Union actually stretches back quite a way. Many years ago, at the beginning of her teaching career, Mrs Wright spent a brief period teaching at Union – and now, all these years later, her path has brought her back. ๐๐ฒ๐ฟ ๐ต๐๐๐ฏ๐ฎ๐ป๐ฑ, ๐ฆ๐๐ฒ๐๐ฒ๐ป ๐ช๐ฟ๐ถ๐ด๐ต๐, ๐ถ๐ ๐ฎ๐น๐๐ผ ๐ฎ๐ป ๐ข๐น๐ฑ ๐จ๐ป๐ถ๐ผ๐ป๐ถ๐๐ฒ, ๐ฎ๐ฑ๐ฑ๐ถ๐ป๐ด ๐ฎ๐ป๐ผ๐๐ต๐ฒ๐ฟ ๐น๐ผ๐๐ฒ๐น๐ ๐ฐ๐ผ๐ป๐ป๐ฒ๐ฐ๐๐ถ๐ผ๐ป ๐๐ผ ๐๐ต๐ฒ ๐๐ฐ๐ต๐ผ๐ผ๐น.
The couple farms between Graaff-Reinet and Jansenville, where they are raising their two young children. ๐๐๐ฎ๐ ๐ณ๐ฟ๐ผ๐บ ๐๐ต๐ฒ ๐ฐ๐น๐ฎ๐๐๐ฟ๐ผ๐ผ๐บ, she has a keen interest in research, creativity and the stories of people and places, along with a particular knowledge of the Angora goat and mohair industry – all interests that seem especially well suited to life in this part of the Karoo.
