The Union Schools’ young athletes delivered a string of outstanding performances at the annual 𝗝𝗨𝗡𝗜𝗢𝗥 𝗜𝗡𝗧𝗘𝗥𝗦𝗖𝗛𝗢𝗢𝗟𝗦 𝗔𝗧𝗛𝗟𝗘𝗧𝗜𝗖𝗦 meeting held against Laer Volkskool this past Monday afternoon, 3 November.

Undeterred by the blazing sun, the school’s youngest learners made their mark early, with 𝗦𝗵𝗶𝗹𝗼𝗵 𝗣𝗵𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗽𝘀, 𝗔𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗻 𝘃𝗮𝗻 𝗱𝗲𝗿 𝗪𝗮𝗹𝘁 and 𝗤𝗮𝘇𝗼 𝗕𝗼𝗼𝗶 sprinting to victory in their respective 60m events. Van der Walt also claimed the 1st place in the 80m Boys u8 sprint, clocking a new record time of 12.38s, while 𝗟𝘂𝘀𝗶𝗸𝗲𝗹𝗼 𝗠𝗱𝗹𝗮𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗮 claimed gold in the Girls u8 80m.

In the middle distances, Union’s runners proved their endurance and determination. 𝗦𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗮𝘆𝗼 𝗞𝗮𝗶𝘁𝗿𝗼 (Boys u12 1200m) and 𝗟𝗶𝘆𝗮𝗯𝗼𝗻𝗮 𝗠𝗮𝗾𝗴𝗼𝗯𝗶 (Boys u13 1500m) powered through to impressive wins, while 𝗞𝗮𝗿𝗶 𝗦𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗻, 𝗘𝗺𝗶𝗹𝘆 𝗥𝗮𝗮𝘁𝗵 and 𝗠𝗮𝗰𝗸𝗲𝗻𝘇𝗶𝗲 𝗣𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗻 earned valuable points for the team with strong podium finishes.

The field events also saw the green and white make its mark, with 𝗗𝗮𝗻𝘁𝗲 𝗠𝗶𝗹𝗹𝘀 setting a new record in the u13 Boys Shot Put (11.50m), 𝗚𝗿𝗮𝗰𝗲 𝗞𝗶𝘁𝗰𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴 improving the u10 Girls High Jump record to 1,09m and 𝗟𝗶𝘀𝗮 𝗠𝗰𝗘𝘄𝗮𝗻 setting a new record in the u12 Girls High Jump (1.22m).

𝗡𝗼ë𝗹 𝗦𝗵𝗮𝗸𝗮𝗻𝗲 also added another record to Union’s tally, with a distance of 5.29m in the u13 Boys Long Jump.

The Union learners’ teamwork, however, shone brightest in the relays.

The school’s u12 and u13 Boys’ teams both stormed to victory in their 4×100m events, while the u13 Girls’ team also clinched first place with an excellent 1:01.84 finish – 𝘢 𝘩𝘪𝘨𝘩𝘭𝘪𝘨𝘩𝘵 𝘮𝘰𝘮𝘦𝘯𝘵 𝘰𝘧 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘥𝘢𝘺.

We’re incredibly proud of all our learners, who, despite the sun beating down on them, never let the heat slow their spirit. Their combined efforts earned the school a strong overall result of 846, just short of Volkskool’s total of 866.

𝗪𝗲𝗹𝗹 𝗱𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝘁𝗵𝗼𝘀𝗲 𝘄𝗵𝗼 𝗽𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗶𝗽𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗱!

The past weekend saw Union High School’s u11A and u13A cricket teams take on Woodridge College & Preparatory School in a series of fixtures.

In the 𝘂𝟭𝟭𝗔 T20 match on Friday, Union batted first to post 76/6 in their 20 overs, with steady contributions from 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝗸 𝗖𝗼𝗽𝗲𝗺𝗮𝗻 (15), 𝗟𝗶𝗮𝗺 𝗥𝗮𝗮𝘁𝗵 (14) 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗠𝗶𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗲𝗹 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝗶𝘁𝘇 (11). Despite Woodridge chasing down the target to win by seven wickets, Union’s bowlers – 𝗕𝗲𝗻 𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗺𝗮𝗹𝗱, 𝗞𝗲𝘃𝗶𝗻 𝗱𝗲 𝗞𝗹𝗲𝗿𝗸 and 𝗟𝗲𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗿𝗼 𝗡𝗼𝗿𝗺𝗮𝗻 – each claimed a wicket, showing a lot of grit throughout.

Saturday’s 25-over encounter saw Union win the toss and bat again, but Woodridge’s disciplined bowling restricted them to 60 all out (25.2 overs). With the ball, 𝗜𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗵𝗶 𝗦𝗶𝗱𝗶𝗱𝗶 (1-15) 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗟𝗶𝗮𝗺 𝗥𝗮𝗮𝘁𝗵 (1-19) both struck for Union, keeping up the fight until the end. 𝘈𝘭𝘵𝘩𝘰𝘶𝘨𝘩 𝘞𝘰𝘰𝘥𝘳𝘪𝘥𝘨𝘦 𝘸𝘦𝘯𝘵 𝘰𝘯 𝘵𝘰 𝘴𝘦𝘤𝘶𝘳𝘦 𝘷𝘪𝘤𝘵𝘰𝘳𝘺, 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘜𝘯𝘪𝘰𝘯 𝘣𝘰𝘺𝘴 𝘥𝘪𝘴𝘱𝘭𝘢𝘺𝘦𝘥 𝘨𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘵 𝘱𝘳𝘰𝘮𝘪𝘴𝘦 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘤𝘰𝘯𝘵𝘪𝘯𝘶𝘦𝘥 𝘵𝘰 𝘣𝘶𝘪𝘭𝘥 𝘤𝘰𝘯𝘧𝘪𝘥𝘦𝘯𝘤𝘦 𝘸𝘪𝘵𝘩 𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘳𝘺 𝘰𝘷𝘦𝘳.

The 𝘂𝟭𝟯𝗔 side produced an exciting T20 match, batting first to reach 69 runs. What followed was an outstanding bowling display, led by 𝗦𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗮𝘆𝘂 𝗞𝗮𝗶𝘁𝗿𝗼 (4-10) and 𝗝𝗼𝘀𝗵 𝗞𝗶𝗻𝗴𝘄𝗶𝗹𝗹, who claimed a hat-trick – a remarkable achievement at any level!𝘛𝘩𝘦𝘪𝘳 𝘤𝘰𝘮𝘣𝘪𝘯𝘦𝘥 𝘦𝘧𝘧𝘰𝘳𝘵𝘴 𝘴𝘢𝘸 𝘜𝘯𝘪𝘰𝘯 𝘥𝘦𝘧𝘦𝘯𝘥 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘪𝘳 𝘵𝘰𝘵𝘢𝘭 𝘣𝘳𝘪𝘭𝘭𝘪𝘢𝘯𝘵𝘭𝘺, 𝘸𝘪𝘯𝘯𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘣𝘺 15 𝘳𝘶𝘯𝘴 𝘪𝘯 𝘢 𝘴𝘶𝘱𝘦𝘳𝘣 𝘵𝘦𝘢𝘮 𝘦𝘧𝘧𝘰𝘳𝘵.

In the 40-over clash, Woodridge posted a strong 216/7, with 𝗝𝗼𝘀𝗵 𝗞𝗶𝗻𝗴𝘄𝗶𝗹𝗹 once again impressing, taking 3-37. Union’s reply of 82 all out included a solid 31 from Kingwill and 20 from 𝗡𝗮𝘁𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗲𝗮𝗹 𝗣𝗵𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗽𝘀, but it wasn’t enough to chase down the total.

While results didn’t always go Union’s way, the weekend was filled with growth, teamwork and moments of brilliance. 𝘌𝘢𝘤𝘩 𝘨𝘢𝘮𝘦 𝘰𝘧𝘧𝘦𝘳𝘦𝘥 𝘭𝘦𝘴𝘴𝘰𝘯𝘴 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘸𝘪𝘭𝘭 𝘯𝘰 𝘥𝘰𝘶𝘣𝘵 𝘴𝘵𝘳𝘦𝘯𝘨𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘯 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘴𝘦 𝘺𝘰𝘶𝘯𝘨 𝘤𝘳𝘪𝘤𝘬𝘦𝘵𝘦𝘳𝘴 𝘢𝘴 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘺 𝘤𝘰𝘯𝘵𝘪𝘯𝘶𝘦 𝘵𝘰 𝘥𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘭𝘰𝘱 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘪𝘳 𝘴𝘬𝘪𝘭𝘭𝘴 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘭𝘰𝘷𝘦 𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘨𝘢𝘮𝘦
