The highlight of the ceremony came when our girls’ tennis captain, ๐—ง๐—ฎ๐—ฟ๐—ฎ ๐—™๐—ฒ๐—ฟ๐—ฟ๐—ฒ๐—ถ๐—ฟ๐—ฎ, stepped up to deliver a heartfelt speech.

Senior Rugby vs St Andrew’s School

Saturday, 15 March, saw Union High School’s senior rugby teams facing off against their counterparts from St Andrew’s School in Bloemfontein.

In the ๐˜‚/๐Ÿญ๐Ÿฑ๐—” match, Union fought hard but ultimately fell to St Andrew’s with a score of 10-37. The ๐˜‚/๐Ÿญ๐Ÿฒ๐—” team enjoyed a great game, holding St Andrew’s to a scoreless game, finishing at 12-0. The ๐˜‚/๐Ÿญ๐Ÿฐ๐—” team battled valiantly but ended the day with a 12-29 loss.

The day saw excellent performances from the ๐Ÿฎ๐—ป๐—ฑ ๐—ซ๐—ฉ, who dominated their match with a resounding 44-0 victory,

Our ๐Ÿญ๐˜€๐˜ ๐—ซ๐—ฉ triumphed over St Andrew’s with a strong 41-10 win. In the first half the Union boys got off to a very good start and we managed to put the first points on the board through a try by Ronan Ewers. St Andrew’s then got a penalty which they converted taking the score to 5- 3. Another try by Christopher Nqumashe extended our lead to 12-3. The boys put pressure on the St Andrew’s defense and this lead to a brilliant individual try by Elvandre Meyer extending our lead even further by 17-3. St Andrew’s then scored a try and we went into half time leading 17-10.ย 

The second half the boys came back even more fired up as we broke the defense line of the opposition and scored once again through Yonela Wana, the scored 24- 10. Union then received a yellow card but that did not put us on the back foot as we managed to score two more tries through a second try by Elvandre Meyer and Shaakir Kazi, taking our lead to 41-10.

Overall, we are incredibly proud of our boys’ efforts and sportsmanship on the field today. ๐—š๐—ผ ๐—จ๐—ป๐—ถ๐—ผ๐—ป!

The ๐—ง๐—ข๐—ฃ ๐Ÿด ๐—š๐—”๐—Ÿ๐—” – which will be held this evening, Wednesday, 12 March, at the Newton Park Swimming Pool – is the culmination of the season’s ‘B’ Age Group Galas where the top 8 swimmers in each age group and each stroke are selected to participate

They played for each other, stood tall in the tough moments, and proved that setbacks do not define them but how they rise does.

They played structured, disciplined hockey and represented Union with pride. Their performance at trials was a testament to their hard work and dedication.

Final Thoughts
This weekend embodied everything we stand for as the hockey first team. Mind over matterโ€”we refused to let setbacks define us. Compete to conquerโ€”every game, every moment, we fight to be better than we were before. Heart of a championโ€”we played with passion, resilience, and a belief in each other.

We are not just playing hockey; we are changing the story. We are stepping onto the field with purpose, commanding the moment, and proving that we have the strength to conquer the mind. This weekend was another step in the right direction and I have no doubt that this team is capable of great things.

Facing Pearson is always a demanding fixture, and while the results may not reflect the effort, our teams showed immense heart and resilience.
U16A lost 6-0
U14A lost 3-0
1st Team lost 5-0 Pearson capitalized on their set plays, scoring three goals from short corners, a penalty flick, and a well-worked field goal.

Despite the losses, I was incredibly proud of how the girls handled themselves. They showed grit, fought until the final whistle, and continued to play within our structures.

As we gear up for the upcoming winter sports season, we are excited to a share that our first aiders participated in an exceptionally successful two-day ๐—™๐—œ๐—ฅ๐—ฆ๐—ง ๐—”๐—œ๐—— course held at Union High School, Graaff-Reinet this past weekend.

This past weekend, our 1st XV rugby team traveled to East London to participate in the annual Hoรซrskool Ooskus Gimnasium Sports Fest.

In a thrilling final match of the day on Saturday, the boys faced off against the host team, Ooskus.

The first half presented some challenges for Union, as mistakes led to lost ball possession, allowing Ooskus to score the first points with a converted try. Their efforts paid off when Elvandre Meyer crossed the try line, with Makukhanye de Beer successfully converting the try, narrowing the score to 7-10.

However, Ooskus responded with another try, extending their lead to 15-7. Union fought back valiantly with a try by Jayden Odendaal, once again converted by de Beer, bringing the score to 14-15.
