This webinar is ideal for all parents, whether your children are in pre-school, prep, primary or high school.
All behaviour is communication. Even bizarre, disruptive and disrespectful actions are purposeful and attempt to solve a problem. Through this webinar, Keller Education hopes to equip parents to learn to step back, to think outside of the “behaviour box,” understand where behaviour dwells in the human brain, and how all human behaviours are motivated by four functions.

In 2021, Union High School launched a cross-age peer mentoring programme at the school to promote the learnersโ physical, social and emotional well-being.
The programme is constructed between the older and younger learners, with mentors being assigned to specific class groups so that the younger learners can benefit from the experience and knowledge of the older ones.

The support of parents and teachers is undoubtedly vital for the success of our learners. However, the impact that guidance and advice from people who are closer in age can have is often overlooked – in fact, peer mentoring has been shown to lead to improved attitude to school, attendance and behaviour. It can also help learners to build up a peer network within their school, causing more holistic benefits such as a sense of community and belonging.

The Union High School Governing Body is pleased to announce that it will soon begin construction of a ๐ฉ๐๐ง๐๐-๐๐ก๐๐จ๐จ๐ง๐ค๐ค๐ข ๐๐๐๐๐ฉ๐๐ค๐ฃ to the Middle School on the corner of Donkin and Caledon Street.
Once completed, this exciting development will provide 179 square metres in additional classroom space.
Construction is expected to begin within the next couple of months and to be completed and ready for use at the start of the 2023 academic year.
The new building will connect to the current Middle School and will feature modern classrooms, covered patios on the front and side of the building and contemporary breakout spaces.
While the overall design of the new building will “fit in” with the existing historic setting, the classrooms itself will consist of innovative learning spaces that aligns with the pedagogical vision of the 21st century. Think beautiful spaces that are light, airy, fitted with the latest technology and that make learners feel good to be at school.

Union High School invites all parents, learners aged 16 and over, and members of the Union community to ๐๐ข๐ก๐๐ง๐ ๐๐๐ข๐ข๐ at the SANBS blood drive being held on Tuesday afternoon, 15 February, between 13:30 and 18:00 in the Tony Burrell Union.
Situated in the heart of Graaff-Reinet against a magnificent mountain backdrop, ๐๐๐ง๐๐ฎ ๐ผ๐ง๐ฃ๐ค๐ฉ๐ฉ ๐๐ค๐ช๐จ๐, one of the Union High School’s boarding establishments, has opened its doors to accommodate visitors to town during the ๐ฎ๐ฌ๐ฎ๐ฎ ๐ฆ๐ง๐ข๐๐ฃ ๐ง๐๐ฆ๐ง๐๐ก๐ festivities (27 to 29 May 2022).

Coding is becoming a vitally important skill in the 21st century and having the fundamental knowledge will help a child in any field of study.
It is, therefore, with great excitement that we announce that Union High School held its very first Robotics lesson today!
This ๐ช๐ฃ๐๐ฆ๐ช๐ ๐๐ฃ๐ฉ๐๐ง๐๐๐ฉ๐๐ซ๐ ๐๐ก๐๐จ๐จ saw a select few learners being introduced to this exciting subject.
The enthusiasm of the learners was tangible as they played around with basic coding languages and studied the principles of coding.
Union extends its grateful ๐ง๐๐๐ก๐๐ฆ to the Care for Education Foundation whose donation of several Mindstorm EV3 robotic kits have made this a possibility. We also extend our thanks to the Union educators who have made themselves available to study and, in turn, teach our learners all about Robotics.
Lastly, we’d also like to thank Mr Ross Hulleman for his willingness to assist with the lessons.

Union High Schoolโs learners returned to school this year with an enhanced educational locale – an ๐ข๐จ๐ง๐๐ข๐ข๐ฅ ๐๐๐๐ฆ๐ฆ๐ฅ๐ข๐ข๐ .
The idea was conceptualised by the SGB during 2021, and, thanks to a generous sponsor, was completed at the start of 2022.
The space is a new addition that highlights the advantages of outdoor learning and access to nature, both known to increase learner enthusiasm and as being beneficial to social, emotional and physical health.
Located next to the Tony Burrell Union, the outdoor classroom features new flooring, elegant desks and an outdoor whiteboard on the side of the building to aid the teachers.
The classroom has already proven a hit among learners and staff alike and is being utilised by classes from both the high school and middle school on a daily basis.
โค This is the first of several such spaces planned for the Union campus over the next couple of years.

Initiated in January 2021, Unionโs ongoing professional development through Keller Education keeps our teachers up-to-date on new research on how children learn, emerging technology tools for the classroom and more.
As the best professional development is ongoing, experiential, collaborative, and connected to and derived from working with learners and understanding their culture, we feel incredibly fortunate to be able to provide our teachers with this training and look forward to partnering with Keller Education again in 2022!
