Union High School is extremely proud of Grade 6 learner Tara Piercey who, during the recent Karoo Eisteddfod, achieved a total of 98% – Triple Gold – for her original story, โHopeโ.

When Unionโs athletes take to the school’s tennis courts to start off the 2022 season, they will be playing on beautiful, newly reconstructed, playing surfaces.
The resurfacing of the schoolโs tennis courts kicked off this morning, Wednesday, 17 November, and – in a couple of weeks – will soon be in great shape again, ready to serve the school community!

At Union High School, keeping our school ๐ฆ๐๐๐ โ along with all the teachers, staff and learners residing inside โ is of utmost importance.
We, therefore, recently embarked on a project that will see the school’s perimetre fence along the riverbank replaced with secure palisade fencing.
The total length of this project – which will enhance the security of our campus immensely – spans 600m and will stretch all the way from the corner at Union High School’s AstroTurf, past Herby Arnott House and the Union Preparatory School to the back of Arthur Kingwill House.
We can’t wait to see this project completed and thank our team of groundsmen for their efforts in erecting this fence.

Author Mr Alan Landau, who currently resides in Australia, recently published the sixth and final book in his ‘Langbourne’ series, titled โLangbourneโs Legacyโ.
Although this book isn’t available in South Africa as yet, Union was extremely fortunate to be gifted two of them by Mr Landau, to complete the two sets of this series he donated to the school in 2019.
We are extremely grateful to Mr Landau for this gesture. In spite of yet another disruptive year, the cultural activities of Union High School continued in the background.
The highlight of the year was certainly the more than 100 learners who participated in 82 items for the Karoo Eisteddfod in the categories of Music, Art, Drama, Speech, Photography and Creative Writing.
We are truly grateful to our educators, Ms Jenny Street, Mrs Hanli Rose-Innes, Mrs Bronwen Langmead, Mrs Sanette Brink, Ms Zelda van Rooyen and Miss Paula-Jane Phillips, who prepared and entered the learners in the different categories.
Our learners did exceptionally well, with marks ranging from Triple Gold to Silver.
Not one learner got under 70%.
Over the next couple of weeks, weโll feature the achievers in each category, but weโd like to start it off today with Camran Swartz, Joy Merifield, Tyra Binney and Ababalwa Matutu, seen here on the accompanying photos, who each received a Triple Gold certificate for their 2D artwork entries.
Congratulations to young photographers Rebecca Copeman (Grade 7) and Sarah Jacobs (Grade 8 ) on their excellent results following this yearโs Karoo Eisteddfod!
Rebecca entered six photos in the competitionโs โNature Photographyโ entry class, receiving either a Gold or Double Gold certificate for all her entries.
Sarah received a Triple Gold certificate for her entry entitled โMushroom Delightโ, and Double Gold and Gold for her other two entries respectively.

At Union High Schoolโs recent prizegiving ceremony, the ๐ง๐ข๐ฃ ๐๐๐๐๐๐ ๐๐ ๐๐๐๐๐๐ฉ๐๐ฅ๐ฆ in each grade were acknowledged for excellence during the academic school year.
