Please take note that the Annual General Meeting, at which the 𝗨𝗡𝗜𝗢𝗡 𝗦𝗖𝗛𝗢𝗢𝗟𝗦’ 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟰 𝗕𝗨𝗗𝗚𝗘𝗧 will be presented to parents, will be held on Monday evening, 13 November, in the Tony Burrell Union:

Union High School, Graaff-Reinet was exceedingly priviledged today, to welcome back one of our very own, Luphumlo Joko, to our campus.

Luphumlo, a former Unionite from the 𝗖𝗹𝗮𝘀𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝟮𝟬𝟭𝟭, is not only an accomplished author, speaker, trainer and business coach, but also a passionate advocate for leadership development.

This afternoon, Wednesday, 11 October, Luphumlo led a workshop with our newly elected prefect body, focusing on the importance of effective leadership. 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸𝘀𝗵𝗼𝗽 𝘄𝗮𝘀 𝗮 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘀𝘂𝗰𝗰𝗲𝘀𝘀, 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗻𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗴𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘃𝗮𝗹𝘂𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗶𝗻𝘀𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗶𝗻𝘀𝗽𝗶𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝗟𝘂𝗽𝗵𝘂𝗺𝗹𝗼’𝘀 𝘄𝗲𝗮𝗹𝘁𝗵 𝗼𝗳 𝗸𝗻𝗼𝘄𝗹𝗲𝗱𝗴𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗲𝘅𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲.

Luphumlo’s first book, “The Ultimate Leader-Shift,” delves into the concept of heart-centered leadership, which emphasizes leading from within oneself. He believes that true leadership comes from understanding and embracing one’s own inner-self, and he shared these valuable teachings with our prefects during the workshop.

𝗪𝗲 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗶𝗻𝗰𝗿𝗲𝗱𝗶𝗯𝗹𝘆 𝗴𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗳𝘂𝗹 𝘁𝗼 𝗟𝘂𝗽𝗵𝘂𝗺𝗹𝗼 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘁𝗮𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗲 𝗯𝗮𝗰𝗸 𝘁𝗼 𝗨𝗻𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘀𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗸𝗻𝗼𝘄𝗹𝗲𝗱𝗴𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗶𝗻𝘀𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁𝘀 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗽𝗿𝗲𝗳𝗲𝗰𝘁𝘀.

𝙒𝙚 𝙡𝙤𝙤𝙠 𝙛𝙤𝙧𝙬𝙖𝙧𝙙 𝙩𝙤 𝙛𝙪𝙩𝙪𝙧𝙚 𝙘𝙤𝙡𝙡𝙖𝙗𝙤𝙧𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣𝙨 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙘𝙤𝙣𝙩𝙞𝙣𝙪𝙚𝙙 𝙨𝙪𝙘𝙘𝙚𝙨𝙨 𝙛𝙤𝙧 𝙗𝙤𝙩𝙝 𝙝𝙞𝙢 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙤𝙪𝙧 𝙐𝙣𝙞𝙤𝙣 𝙛𝙖𝙢𝙞𝙡𝙮.

The annual induction ceremony hosted by the Old Unionite Association, is always such a special rite of passage for Union’s matrics.

In a memorable ceremony, held on Tuesday evening, 10 October, Union High School, Graaff-Reinet’s Class of 2023 embarked on a new chapter of their journey as they were officially inducted into the Old Unionite Association (OUA).

The highly anticipated annual event commenced with the distribution of OUA membership cards and a gift to the Grade 12 learners, symbolizing their entry into the Union High School alumni community. 𝙏𝙝𝙞𝙨 𝙤𝙘𝙘𝙖𝙨𝙞𝙤𝙣 𝙥𝙧𝙤𝙫𝙞𝙙𝙚𝙙 𝙖 𝙗𝙞𝙩𝙩𝙚𝙧𝙨𝙬𝙚𝙚𝙩 𝙢𝙤𝙢𝙚𝙣𝙩 𝙛𝙤𝙧 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙢𝙖𝙩𝙧𝙞𝙘𝙨, 𝙖𝙨 𝙞𝙩 𝙨𝙞𝙜𝙣𝙖𝙡𝙡𝙚𝙙 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙚𝙣𝙙 𝙤𝙛 𝙩𝙝𝙚𝙞𝙧 𝙝𝙞𝙜𝙝 𝙨𝙘𝙝𝙤𝙤𝙡 𝙘𝙖𝙧𝙚𝙚𝙧𝙨.

Headmaster Mr William Pringle extended a warm welcome to the Grade 12s, setting the tone for an evening filled with pride and reflection, after which guest speaker Mr Rhett Newton, Chairman of the OUA committee, seized the opportunity to share invaluable words of wisdom with the young learners. 𝘏𝘦 𝘦𝘮𝘱𝘩𝘢𝘴𝘪𝘻𝘦𝘥 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘪𝘮𝘱𝘰𝘳𝘵𝘢𝘯𝘤𝘦 𝘰𝘧 𝘶𝘱𝘩𝘰𝘭𝘥𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘴𝘤𝘩𝘰𝘰𝘭’𝘴 𝘮𝘰𝘳𝘢𝘭 𝘴𝘵𝘢𝘯𝘥𝘢𝘳𝘥𝘴 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘶𝘳𝘨𝘦𝘥 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘮 𝘵𝘰 𝘳𝘦𝘮𝘢𝘪𝘯 𝘤𝘰𝘯𝘯𝘦𝘤𝘵𝘦𝘥 𝘵𝘰 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘪𝘳 𝘈𝘭𝘮𝘢 𝘔𝘢𝘵𝘦𝘳, 𝘢𝘭𝘸𝘢𝘺𝘴 𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘥𝘺 𝘵𝘰 𝘴𝘶𝘱𝘱𝘰𝘳𝘵 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘤𝘩𝘦𝘳𝘪𝘴𝘩 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘷𝘢𝘭𝘶𝘦𝘴 𝘪𝘯𝘴𝘵𝘪𝘭𝘭𝘦𝘥 𝘪𝘯 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘮 𝘥𝘶𝘳𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘪𝘳 𝘵𝘪𝘮𝘦 𝘢𝘵 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘜𝘯𝘪𝘰𝘯 𝘚𝘤𝘩𝘰𝘰𝘭𝘴.

The memorable event came to a close with the Class of 2023 coming together to enjoy a delightful meal, fostering camaraderie and nostalgia among the matriculating learners.

Our newly elected #prefects for 2023/24 are attending their prefect camp this weekend, 22 to 24 September.

This year’s camp is being held near Somerset East on the farm ‘Skietfontein’.

Accompanied by Mrs Nelia Read and Mr Hanno Sparrius, our learner leaders will spend the weekend doing fun-filled activities geared towards fostering the development of key skills such as 𝙘𝙤𝙣𝙛𝙞𝙙𝙚𝙣𝙘𝙚, 𝙨𝙚𝙡𝙛-𝙗𝙚𝙡𝙞𝙚𝙛, 𝙘𝙤𝙢𝙢𝙪𝙣𝙞𝙘𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣 and 𝙩𝙚𝙖𝙢 𝙨𝙥𝙞𝙧𝙞𝙩.

Union High School, Graaff-Reinet’s Grade 10 learners embarked on their highly anticipated annual 𝗢𝗗𝗬𝗦𝗦𝗘𝗬 today, Thursday, 21 September.

With spirits high and an early start from De Toren, Nieu-Bethesda, they dove headfirst into this 5-day hiking adventure.

The journey has only just begun, but already these courageous young learners are forging unforgettable memories, eagerly anticipating the discoveries that await them on the remaining days of their odyssey.

It was with great pride that Mr. William Pringle, the headmaster of Union High School, rang the David Stern Memorial Bell before the start of today’s 1st XI’s match against a visiting Marlow Agricultural High School side.

𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘣𝘦𝘭𝘭, 𝘸𝘩𝘪𝘤𝘩 𝘸𝘢𝘴 𝘦𝘳𝘦𝘤𝘵𝘦𝘥 𝘣𝘺 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘖𝘭𝘥 𝘜𝘯𝘪𝘰𝘯𝘪𝘵𝘦 𝘈𝘴𝘴𝘰𝘤𝘪𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯 𝘥𝘶𝘳𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘍𝘰𝘶𝘯𝘥𝘦𝘳𝘴’ 𝘞𝘦𝘦𝘬𝘦𝘯𝘥 𝘦𝘢𝘳𝘭𝘪𝘦𝘳 𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘴 𝘺𝘦𝘢𝘳, 𝘴𝘦𝘳𝘷𝘦𝘴 𝘢𝘴 𝘢 𝘮𝘦𝘮𝘰𝘳𝘺 𝘰𝘧 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘭𝘢𝘵𝘦 𝘋𝘢𝘷𝘪𝘥 𝘚𝘵𝘦𝘳𝘯, 𝘸𝘩𝘰 𝘴𝘦𝘳𝘷𝘦𝘥 𝘢𝘴 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘤𝘩𝘢𝘪𝘳𝘮𝘢𝘯 𝘰𝘧 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘖𝘭𝘥 𝘜𝘯𝘪𝘰𝘯𝘪𝘵𝘦 𝘈𝘴𝘴𝘰𝘤𝘪𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯 𝘢𝘵 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘵𝘪𝘮𝘦 𝘰𝘧 𝘩𝘪𝘴 𝘱𝘢𝘴𝘴𝘪𝘯𝘨.

This bell is located outside the Tony Burrell Union overlooking Union’s cricket field, and is to be rung 5 minutes before the start of every home 1st XI match, to signify the imminent start of play.

You are invited to participate in an exciting event that promises to bring out the spirit of camaraderie and fun as Tri The Karoo presents 𝗧𝗥𝗜𝗠𝗔𝗡𝗜𝗔 – a corporate challenge taking place on Saturday, 14 October.

𝗧𝗥𝗜𝗠𝗔𝗡𝗜𝗔 is an event designed for individuals and teams that love to have a great time while testing their endurance. This isn’t your typical triathlon but rather a chance to embrace the exhilaration of the Kids’ distance event – so no need to worry about long, grueling distances. Dive into the dam and splash your way through 150 meters of refreshing fun. Hop on a colourful bike and pedal your way through a 4-kilometer course, with laughter as your fuel.

Finally, lace up your sneakers for a lively 1-kilometer run that will have you smiling from start to finish. 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗺𝗮𝗶𝗻 𝗮𝗶𝗺? 𝗧𝗼 𝗵𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝗮𝗻 𝗮𝗯𝘀𝗼𝗹𝘂𝘁𝗲 𝗯𝗹𝗮𝘀𝘁!

This past Friday morning, Union High School, Graaff-Reinet‘s Accounting learners had the opportunity to gain valuable insights into the world of accountancy from Ralie Blignaut, auditor at Gerber, Botha & Gowar Chartered Accountants.

𝙍𝙖𝙡𝙞𝙚 𝙜𝙚𝙣𝙚𝙧𝙤𝙪𝙨𝙡𝙮 𝙩𝙤𝙤𝙠 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙩𝙞𝙢𝙚 𝙩𝙤 𝙫𝙞𝙨𝙞𝙩 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙨𝙘𝙝𝙤𝙤𝙡 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙨𝙥𝙚𝙖𝙠 𝙩𝙤 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙡𝙚𝙖𝙧𝙣𝙚𝙧𝙨 𝙖𝙗𝙤𝙪𝙩 𝙥𝙪𝙧𝙨𝙪𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙖 𝙘𝙖𝙧𝙚𝙚𝙧 𝙞𝙣 𝙖𝙘𝙘𝙤𝙪𝙣𝙩𝙖𝙣𝙘𝙮.

Not only did she provide valuable information about the profession, but she also shared her experiences attending the recent #Xerocon conference in Sydney, Australia. The learners were thrilled to hear about the conference and the exciting developments in the field of accountancy discussed there.

To show her appreciation for the warm welcome she received, 𝗥𝗮𝗹𝗶𝗲 𝘀𝘂𝗿𝗽𝗿𝗶𝘀𝗲𝗱 𝗲𝗮𝗰𝗵 𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗻𝗲𝗿 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗮 𝗱𝗲𝗹𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁𝗳𝘂𝗹 𝗴𝗼𝗼𝗱𝗶𝗲 𝗯𝗮𝗴. These goodie bags were filled with exciting Xerocon and Gerber, Botha & Gowar (GBG) merchandise, truly making it a memorable visit for everyone involved.

The learners were grateful for Ralie’s visit and the insightful talk she delivered. Her engaging presentation and the gifts provided additional motivation and excitement for those considering a future in accountancy.
