Senior Hockey vs VGHS & Kingswood – Results

Senior Hockey vs VGHS

The girls produced a commanding performance against VGHS, dominating possession and dictating the pace of the game from start. Their passing, movement off the ball and work rate were excellent. Although they created numerous scoring opportunities. The final 3–0 score line did not reflect the full extent of their dominance. Defensively, they remained composed and disciplined, rarely allowing VGHS into threatening positions.

Player of the match (Friday): Aaminah Steele – for her energy and control in the final third.

Senior Hockey vs Kingswood

In a tightly contested but well-controlled encounter, the girls once again showed their class and tactical discipline to secure a 1–0 win. From the first start they put Kingswood under pressure, winning possession in key areas and creating chances through well-structured attacking play. The goal came from a brilliant turnover in the midfield. This led to a short corner, which was converted by Tara Ferreira (with a beautiful, well executed drag flick goal).

Player of the Match (Saturday): Nadine Murray – for her work rate, intelligent positioning and ability to turn opposition over.

Player of the Weekend : Abonai Matushe for keeping two clean sheets this weekend.
Well done Kenza and the first team, on an excellent performance and back to back clean sheets.

Senior Hockey vs Priory – Results

Saturday, 17 May vs St Dominic’s Priory

Saturday’s clash against Priory was another test of our discipline and patience due to poor umpiring. We controlled nearly 70% of the possession, dominating the game in both territory and chances created. Despite this, Priory opened the scoring after a defensive error. Again, the girls responded well—fighting back to level the score and then push ahead with a second goal to seal the 2–1 win. While we had an impressive 30 short corners, we were unable to convert more of those opportunities into goals—an area we’ll be looking to sharpen moving forward. Nonetheless, a solid win and another step forward for the team.

Congratulations to Miley Burger and Antonio Adams on receiving  first team caps this weekend .

Other Results vs Priory:
Second Team won 3–0
U16A won 9–0
U14 won 5–1
U16B drew 0–0

Overall, a successful weekend for Union Hockey across all teams!

Senior Hockey vs Framesby – Results

Friday, 16 May vs Framesby High School

We took on Framesby in what turned out to be a competitive fixture. Despite going 1–0 down early in the match, the girls showed composure and stuck to our structure. A moment of brilliance from Nadine Murray brought us level—she picked up the ball just outside the halfway line, eliminated four defenders and finished confidently to equalise. From there, we settled into our structure, moved the ball well, and took control of the game. Our attacking intent and team cohesion saw us pull away to a commanding 5–2 victory.

Other Results vs Framesby:
Second Team won 3–0
U16A lost 0–4
U16B lost 1–4
U14 drew 0–0

Hockey vs Collegiate – Results

Union High School’s girls gave it their all on the hockey field on Saturday, 10 May 2025.

First Team Report:
We had a shaky start to the match, Collegiate quickly took advantage of our early nerves and unforced errors, scoring 3 goals in the first chukka. In the second chukka, the girls regrouped and performed with more composure, managing Collegiate’s attacking threats. Unfortunately, a poor decision-making on defense allowed them to add another goal just before halftime.

The third chukka proved to be the most challenging, with Collegiate netting three quick goals. Despite the setback, our girls showed great resilience and continued to fight throughout the game. In the fourth chukka, we managed to limit them to just one goal and launched numerous counterattacks,  we couldn’t convert our chances. Collegiate showed exactly why they are ranked fourth in the country—they were tactically sharper, physically dominant, and mentally switched on. They simply wanted it more on the day. The match ended in a 0–9 loss—my toughest defeat to date with the first team.

Match Results:

  • U16A: Lost 0–8
  • U16B: Lost 0–4
