Union High School, Graaff-Reinet’s junior hockey girls enjoyed a fantastic start to their season with impressive results against DSG in Makhanda.

The ๐—จ/๐Ÿญ๐Ÿฏ๐—– side put on a captivating performance, gaining confidence as the match progressed, and emerged victorious with a score of 3-0. ๐—ช๐—ฒ๐—น๐—น ๐—ฑ๐—ผ๐—ป๐—ฒ to goal scorers Mellissa Marais (2) and Luphiwo Maloyi (1).

In a fast-paced ๐—จ/๐Ÿญ๐Ÿฏ๐—” match, Union’s defense did a stellar job holding the DSG side at bay during the first half. Captain Miley Burger, supported by her teammates, scored the first goal of the match just 10 seconds before halftime. DSG responded strongly in the second half, scoring two quick goals. With just 6 seconds left on the clock, Union’s Logan Marais delighted the Union supporters by scoring a goal, resulting in a thrilling 2-all draw.

On Tuesday morning, 5 March, a group of 11 swimmers from Union Preparatory School, Graaff-Reinet and Union High School, Graaff-Reinet proudly represented the Karoo at the annual Inter-Districts Gala held at DSG in Makhanda.

๐—ง๐—ฟ๐—ฒ๐—ป๐—ป ๐—ก๐—ฎ๐˜‚๐—ฑรฉ earned a well-deserved bronze medal in the u/9 50m Freestyle event.

๐—–๐—ฎ๐˜๐—ถ๐—ฒ ๐——๐—ฎ๐˜ƒ๐—ฒ๐—ป๐—ฝ๐—ผ๐—ฟ๐˜ earned a bronze medal in the u/10 50m Backstroke event.

On Friday, 1 March, Union High School, Graaff-Reinet’s u/13A team faced off against Summerwood Primary School at the Botanics Sports Grounds.

With a collective effort from Union’s batters, they were able to accumulate a respectable total of 80 runs. The bowlers from Union displayed their brilliance, with Ryonn Naudรฉ taking 2 crucial wickets.

Union managed to post a total of 112 runs. In yet another nail-biting finish, Summerwood emerged victorious once again, this time with 6 wickets and 7 balls remaining. Murray Hope stood out as the top performer among Union’s bowlers, taking 2 important wickets.

Over the weekend, Union’s u/11A cricketers wrapped up their season with matches against a visiting Summerwood Primary School.

In the Pro20 match on Friday, Summerwood won the toss and chose to bat first. Union’s bowling performance was exceptional, displaying discipline and making it challenging for the opposing batsmen to score runs. The afternoon kicked off in blustery weather conditions with the u/14A and u/16A matches, setting the stage for an exciting showdown.

Right from the start, it was evident that the Pearson sides were determined to secure a victory. In a fun showdown earlier this afternoon, Union High School, Graaff-Reinet hosted Gill Primary School for a set of junior cricket matches.

First up, it was Union’s u/11B side taking on Gill’s u/11A side. Gill won the toss and decided to bat. They made 8 runs and with the 21 wides conceded, Gill’s innings came to an end at 29 runs in 14 overs. ๐—Ÿ๐—ฒ๐—ฎ๐—ป๐—ฑ๐—ฟ๐—ผ ๐—ก๐—ผ๐—ฟ๐—บ๐—ฎ๐—ป emerged as Union’s standout bowler, consistently troubling the Gill batsmen.

In the second innings, Union came out with great confidence. They chased down the target of 30 runs in just 6 overs, securing a well-deserved victory.
