Herby Arnott House, Union’s top-class co-ed weekly boarding establishment, is nestled below the mountain with a magnificent view of the school sports fields. It was built in 1959 and was named after the headmaster at the time.

The House provides a welcoming home to girls and boys between the ages of 10 and 18 with freshly cooked meals, organised social activities, relaxing times and supervised prep.

The House prides itself on being a truly happy boarding establishment where young boarders can enjoy their childhood, making friends and memories that will last a lifetime.

The House offers weekly boarding for Grade 5 – 12 learners, striving at all times to create a ‘home away from home’, with a family feel and a strong sense of community for all boarders.

Our outstanding boarding team ensures that the House runs smoothly at a grassroots level and that the atmosphere within the house is friendly and comfortable, allowing all learners to feel valued and confident.

The team supervises everything from getting up in the morning to going to bed in the evening and, as our caring matrons are on hand throughout the day, they are brilliant at picking up on and spotting any potential issues often before they happen.

As the House is located within our school grounds, there’s a happy, lively energy on our spacious, beautiful campus throughout the term as our boarders go about their daily activities.
Various recreational areas provide entertainment for the different age groups. Piano rooms provide opportunity for music learners to practice in their own time.

Pastoral care and mentoring of the boarders plays a big part in the daily boarding life. Formal prep in various prep rooms is supervised every day and the boarders also have easy access to the school’s media centre.

All this adds up to an environment that equips its boys and girls with life skills and unique friendships that they will treasure for the rest of their lives.
