Union High School, Graaff-Reinet’s junior hockey girls enjoyed a fantastic start to their season with impressive results against DSG in Makhanda.
The ๐จ/๐ญ๐ฏ๐ side put on a captivating performance, gaining confidence as the match progressed, and emerged victorious with a score of 3-0. ๐ช๐ฒ๐น๐น ๐ฑ๐ผ๐ป๐ฒ to goal scorers Mellissa Marais (2) and Luphiwo Maloyi (1).
The ๐จ/๐ญ๐ฏ๐ side treated the spectators to a wonderful display of hockey and secured a well-deserved win with a score of 1-0. ๐๐ณ๐ฆ๐ฅ๐ช๐ต ๐ง๐ฐ๐ณ ๐ต๐ฉ๐ฆ ๐จ๐ฐ๐ข๐ญ ๐จ๐ฐ๐ฆ๐ด ๐ต๐ฐ ๐ต๐ฉ๐ฆ ๐ฆ๐ฏ๐ต๐ช๐ณ๐ฆ ๐ต๐ฆ๐ข๐ฎ!
In a fast-paced ๐จ/๐ญ๐ฏ๐ match, Union’s defense did a stellar job holding the DSG side at bay during the first half. Captain Miley Burger, supported by her teammates, scored the first goal of the match just 10 seconds before halftime. DSG responded strongly in the second half, scoring two quick goals. With just 6 seconds left on the clock, Union’s Logan Marais delighted the Union supporters by scoring a goal, resulting in a thrilling 2-all draw.

Millie โ played by Caytah-Leigh Koeberg โ is a young bride living in the 1850s Oregon wilderness whose plan to civilize and marry off her six rowdy brothers-in-law to ensure the success of her own marriage to Adam โ played by Finn Cilliers โ backfires when the brothers, in their enthusiasm, kidnap six women from a neighbouring town to be their brides.

They secured an impressive win against the Boland Cavaliers with a score of 60-36, defeated Cape Town (Western Province) with a score of 54-42, and dominated the Northern Cape team with a score of 69-27, ultimately clinching the championship title.

On Tuesday morning, 5 March, a group of 11 swimmers from Union Preparatory School, Graaff-Reinet and Union High School, Graaff-Reinet proudly represented the Karoo at the annual Inter-Districts Gala held at DSG in Makhanda.

Despite the fierce competition in all 60 events, the Karoo swimmers displayed unwavering determination and gave their best in every race.
