There are some supporters who quietly make a lasting difference and today we were reminded just how special that kind of support is.
While in Cape Town for the Cape Town International Hockey Tournament 2026, the Union girls had the privilege of a visit from Dr Jim Te Water Naudé, a proud Old Unionite from the Class of 1978 and one of the biggest supporters of the school’s 𝗚𝗢𝗔𝗟𝗦 𝗙𝗢𝗥 𝗚𝗢𝗢𝗗 campaign.
Despite the pouring rain – 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘯 𝘵𝘩𝘰𝘶𝘨𝘩 𝘪𝘵 𝘸𝘢𝘴 𝘩𝘪𝘴 𝘣𝘪𝘳𝘵𝘩𝘥𝘢𝘺 – Dr Te Water Naudé took the time to come and wish the girls well ahead of their matches.
His encouragement and commitment to the team mean more than words can express and 𝘄𝗲 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗶𝗻𝗰𝗿𝗲𝗱𝗶𝗯𝗹𝘆 𝗴𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗳𝘂𝗹 that he chose to spend part of his special day with them.
The Goals for Good campaign continues to gather wonderful support. Through the initiative, supporters pledge R100 per goal scored by the school’s 1st hockey team, with half of the funds going to charity and the other half helping to grow hockey at Union.
𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗴𝗶𝗿𝗹𝘀 𝗵𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝗻𝗼𝘄 𝘀𝗰𝗼𝗿𝗲𝗱 𝟭𝟭𝟴 𝗴𝗼𝗮𝗹𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝘀𝗲𝗮𝘀𝗼𝗻, including 13 goals at the Cape Town International Hockey Tournament so far. Every goal is making a difference and that is only possible because of the generosity of supporters like Dr Te Water Naudé and everyone who has backed this initiative.
