The day’s play began with the 1st XI captain winning the toss and electing to bowl first under overcast conditions. The decision seemed to pay early dividends as Union’s bowlers maintained good discipline with the new ball. Despite intermittent rain, 24.5 overs were completed before weather forced the players from the field.
Among the standout performances, Callum Jacobs delivered an impressive spell, claiming 3 wickets for 31 runs in 6 overs, demonstrating both control and consistency. Unfortunately, persistent rain after lunch led to the match being officially called off, resulting in no further play for the day.
In the second team encounter, St Andrew’s College took first strike and posted a strong total of 235 runs in their first innings. In reply, Union struggled to build partnerships and were bowled out for 25 runs, giving St Andrew’s a comprehensive victory.
The U15 team also faced a challenging outing, being dismissed for 60 runs. St Andrew’s College made light work of the chase, securing victory by 10 wickets.
Despite the results, there were encouraging individual performances and valuable lessons learned across all teams. The boys showed good spirit and sportsmanship throughout the day.
