1st XI T20 Match

On a bright and competitive day of cricket, Union High School 1st XI faced off against Framesby High School in a T20 encounter. Winning the toss, Union High School elected to bowl first.

Framesby made full use of the batting conditions, posting a formidable 169 runs in their 20 overs. Despite the challenging target, Mohammed Ahmed stood out with an impressive bowling performance, claiming 3 wickets for 36 runs in his 4 overs  a commendable effort under pressure.

In response, Union High School began their chase with a positive mindset but struggled to keep up with the required run rate. Ultimately, they were bowled out for 83 runs, falling short of the target.

U15 Match

In the U15 clash, Framesby batted first and delivered an explosive performance with the bat, setting a daunting total of 305 runs.

Union High School’s bowlers worked hard to contain the opposition, with Thimna Qofo delivering a notable performance by picking up 3 crucial wickets, showcasing both skill and perseverance.

Chasing a steep target, Union High School U15 showed great determination but were ultimately bowled out for 122 runs, falling short by 183 runs.

Both teams displayed great sportsmanship and effort throughout the matches. Union High School will take valuable lessons from the encounters as they continue to develop their cricketing potential

Senior Cricket vs Masizakhe Cricket Club – Results

Union High School vs Masizakhe Cricket Club
Union High School claimed a confident 8-wicket victory over Masizakhe Cricket Club in an exciting T20 match.

After winning the toss, Union High School elected to bowl first and made excellent use of the conditions. Masizakhe Cricket Club were restricted to 95 all out in the 15th over, struggling to build momentum against a disciplined bowling attack. Trystan Hulleman was the pick of the bowlers, finishing with an impressive 3-wicket haul Imitha with to wickets in his first match for the first Team well done.

In response, Union High School’s top order delivered a composed batting performance. Despite losing a wicket during the powerplay, the team remained unfazed. De Beer and Yaaseen Kazi anchored the innings with a solid partnership, sticking to their game plan and rotating the strike well.

Yaaseen Kazi scored a valuable 37 runs before being dismissed, while De Beer played a mature knock, finishing not out on 28 after opening the innings and guiding the team home.

Union High School reached the target comfortably, securing the win with 8 wickets in hand.

A special mention goes to Daniel Marais and Xavier Barlow, who proudly represented the school in their 50th match – a remarkable milestone.

Primary Speech Day

On Friday morning our Grade 5 to 7 learners eagerly participating in our annual Primary Department 𝗦𝗣𝗘𝗘𝗖𝗛 𝗗𝗔𝗬.

Union High School 𝘃𝘀 Graeme College – 𝗔 𝗪𝗲𝗲𝗸𝗲𝗻𝗱 𝗼𝗳 𝗖𝗿𝗶𝗰𝗸𝗲𝘁 𝗕𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗹𝗲𝘀

The Union u/13A side set the tone for the weekend with two 𝘰𝘶𝘵𝘴𝘵𝘢𝘯𝘥𝘪𝘯𝘨 performances.

On Friday, 26 September, Union piled on 149/3 thanks to a classy 55 from 𝗝𝗼𝘀𝗵 𝗞𝗶𝗻𝗴𝘄𝗶𝗹𝗹 and an unbeaten 50 from 𝗡𝗮𝘁𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗲𝗮𝗹 𝗣𝗵𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗽𝘀.

The bowlers then stole the show – none more so than 𝗘𝗱𝘄𝗶𝗻 𝗛𝗼𝗹𝗺𝗲𝘀, who ripped through the Graeme batting order with a devastating spell of 6/11, which included a brilliant 𝘩𝘢𝘵-𝘵𝘳𝘪𝘤𝘬!

Backed up by 𝗚𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘁 𝗠𝘂𝗿𝗿𝗮𝘆 (2/6), Graeme were skittled for just 24, giving Union a thumping 125-run victory.

The team carried that momentum into Saturday’s clash, where they put up another strong total of 203/5.

𝗞𝗮𝗿𝗶 𝗦𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗻 shone with a composed 55 not out, well supported by 𝗗𝗮𝗻𝘁𝗲 𝗠𝗶𝗹𝗹𝘀 (32) and 𝗞𝗶𝗻𝗴𝘄𝗶𝗹𝗹 (31).

With the ball, Phillips, Kingwill and Holmes once again did the damage, sharing six wickets between them. Graeme could only muster 90 in reply, handing Union a dominant 113-run win.

𝗨/𝟭𝟭𝗔

The u/11A boys had two 𝘵𝘰𝘶𝘨𝘩 𝘦𝘯𝘤𝘰𝘶𝘯𝘵𝘦𝘳𝘴 against strong opposition.

On Friday, Graeme posted 160/7, despite a strong bowling effort from 𝗞𝗲𝘃𝗶𝗻 𝗱𝗲 𝗞𝗹𝗲𝗿𝗸 (2/13), 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝗸 𝗖𝗼𝗽𝗲𝗺𝗮𝗻 (2/15) and 𝗕𝗲𝗻 𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗺𝗮𝗹𝗱 (2/28). Union’s batting couldn’t match the effort, falling short by 104 runs.

The Saturday game saw Union dismissed for 49, with Graeme cruising to victory by 7 wickets. Still, Union celebrated wickets from 𝗦𝗶𝗱𝗶𝗱𝗶, 𝗱𝗲 𝗞𝗹𝗲𝗿𝗸 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗺𝗮𝗹𝗱, who never stopped fighting.

U/11B vs Graeme College

Graeme scored 150/9, with Owami Kotishini taking 4/14. Union replied with 78 all out, Andre Putter top scoring with 34. Union lost by 72 runs.

Union batted first and posted 71 runs, with Simo Mcinga top-scoring with 24. Graeme chased down the target, losing 4 wickets in the process. Bhote Mussa impressed with the ball, taking 3 for 10, but Union went down by 6 wickets.

𝗔 𝗪𝗘𝗘𝗞𝗘𝗡𝗗 𝗧𝗢 𝗥𝗘𝗠𝗘𝗠𝗕𝗘𝗥

It was a weekend filled with 𝘭𝘦𝘢𝘳𝘯𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘤𝘶𝘳𝘷𝘦𝘴 and 𝘴𝘵𝘢𝘯𝘥𝘰𝘶𝘵 𝘱𝘦𝘳𝘧𝘰𝘳𝘮𝘢𝘯𝘤𝘦𝘴 across all age groups. The u/13A side led by example, delivering two emphatic wins, while the u/11A and u/9A teams showed great fighting spirit against strong Graeme outfits.

From Holmes’ magical hat-trick to Stern’s composed half-century, the Union cricketers gave their supporters plenty to cheer about, making for a truly 𝘮𝘦𝘮𝘰𝘳𝘢𝘣𝘭𝘦 𝘸𝘦𝘦𝘬𝘦𝘯𝘥 𝘰𝘧 𝘤𝘳𝘪𝘤𝘬𝘦𝘵.

A-League Gala – Results

Union High School is proud of its four swimmers who represented the school at the third 𝗔-𝗟𝗘𝗔𝗚𝗨𝗘 𝗚𝗔𝗟𝗔 held in Gqeberha today.

Left to right: 𝗖𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗲 𝗗𝗮𝘃𝗲𝗻𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁, 𝗔𝗻𝗴𝗲𝗹𝗶𝗾𝘂𝗲 𝗞𝘆𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗮-𝗞𝗮𝗯𝗼𝘇𝗮, 𝗭𝗼ë 𝗠𝗶𝗹𝗹𝘀, 𝗚𝗲𝗿𝗱𝗮 𝗖𝗹𝗮𝗿𝗸𝗲

𝗭𝗼ë 𝗠𝗶𝗹𝗹𝘀 delivered a fantastic set of results, securing 2nd place in the 200m IM and 2nd place in the 50m Breaststroke, along with two 3rd-place finishes in the 100m Freestyle and 50m Freestyle.

𝗚𝗲𝗿𝗱𝗮 𝗖𝗹𝗮𝗿𝗸𝗲 put in a brilliant effort across multiple events, claiming 1st place in the 50m Backstroke and 200m IM, while also earning 3rd place in the 100m Freestyle, 50m Fly and 50m Breaststroke.

𝗖𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗲 𝗗𝗮𝘃𝗲𝗻𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁 showed great promise and determination, finishing 8th in the 100m Freestyle and 9th in both the 50m Backstroke and 50m Breaststroke.

𝗔𝗻𝗴𝗲𝗹𝗶𝗾𝘂𝗲 𝗞𝘆𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗮-𝗞𝗮𝗯𝗼𝘇𝗮 also impressed, swimming to a 4th place finish in the 50m Freestyle, 7th in the 100m Freestyle and 3rd in the 50m Backstroke.

Founders’ Weekend 2026

Members of the Union community are requested to please 𝗦𝗔𝗩𝗘 𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗗𝗔𝗧𝗘 for the Union Schools’ annual 𝗙𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿𝘀’ 𝗪𝗲𝗲𝗸𝗲𝗻𝗱 celebrations to be held on Friday and Saturday, 23 and 24 January 2026.

Junior Cricket vs Queens – Results

U11A Cricket Report vs Queens

Union U11A enjoyed a successful weekend against Queens, winning both fixtures. On Friday, Queens posted 92/5 before Union chased it down with 94/3, thanks to Mark Copeman’s unbeaten 42 and strong support from teammates. On Saturday, Union set 101/8 and bowled superbly to restrict Queens to 83/9, sealing an 18-run victory. Disciplined bowling, sharp fielding, and mature batting underpinned two well-deserved wins.

13A Match Report vs Queens Junior

On Friday, 12 September, Union won the toss in the pro20 match and chose to bat first, posting 95 runs with Dante Mills (31) and Kari Stern (21) contributing well. Despite the modest total, Union produced an outstanding performance in the field, restricting Queens to 74/9 in their 20 overs. Union claimed a well-deserved 21-run victory.

On Saturday, 13 September, Union again batted first and scored 98 runs, with Nathaneal Phillips top scoring with 40. The bowlers were once more superb, restricting Queens to 90/9 in 30 overs, with Grant Murray taking 3/12. Union secured a narrow 8-run win.

1st Team Pearson Cricket Festival – Results

T20 Match vs Victoria Park High School

Union High School won the toss and elected to bat first. Despite a positive intent, the team lost early wickets during the powerplay and was forced to consolidate. We managed to post a total of 92 runs.

Top scorers for the innings were:

  • Sibabalwe Mbotye – 28 runs
  • Callum Jacobs – 27 runs

Victoria Park chased down the target in 13 overs, winning the match by 6 wickets.

Declaration Match vs Daniel Pienaar Technical High School

(Played in Kariega on Friday)

Union High School once again won the toss and chose to bat first. Unfortunately, the batting unit struggled to build partnerships and the team was dismissed for 73 all out.

Daniel Pienaar responded strongly, surpassing the target and enforcing a follow-on. In the second innings, Union High was bowled out for 39, giving Daniel Pienaar victory by an innings and 5 runs.

The standout performance came from Yaseen Kazi, who delivered an impressive spell with figures of 5 wickets for 35 runs in 9.5 overs.

Match vs Alexander Road High School

Unfortunately, the scheduled fixture against Alexander Road High School was abandoned due to rain.

Summary

While our fielding department showed great effort and energy throughout the festival, the batting departments fell short of expectations. Key areas have been identified for improvement, and we are committed to working hard as we move forward.

It’s back to the drawing board with a clear focus on consistency, resilience, and discipline in all aspects of the game.
