Union High School, Graaff-Reinet is proud to present its 2024 stage production – ‘𝙎𝙚𝙫𝙚𝙣 𝘽𝙧𝙞𝙙𝙚𝙨 𝙛𝙤𝙧 𝙎𝙚𝙫𝙚𝙣 𝘽𝙧𝙤𝙩𝙝𝙚𝙧𝙨’.

Union’s bevy of aspiring thespians have been working tirelessly since the start of the year to produce this upcoming musical and with the show less than a month away, rehearsals have kicked into high gear to prepare for opening night.

“Goin’ courting” has never been as much fun as in this rip-roaring stage version of the popular MGM movie. Millie – played by Caytah-Leigh Koeberg – is a young bride living in the 1850s Oregon wilderness whose plan to civilize and marry off her six rowdy brothers-in-law to ensure the success of her own marriage to Adam – played by Finn Cilliers – backfires when the brothers, in their enthusiasm, kidnap six women from a neighbouring town to be their brides.

𝘽𝙪𝙧𝙨𝙩𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙬𝙞𝙩𝙝 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙧𝙖𝙢𝙗𝙪𝙣𝙘𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙪𝙨 𝙚𝙣𝙚𝙧𝙜𝙮 𝙤𝙛 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙤𝙧𝙞𝙜𝙞𝙣𝙖𝙡 𝙛𝙞𝙡𝙢, “𝙎𝙚𝙫𝙚𝙣 𝘽𝙧𝙞𝙙𝙚𝙨 𝙁𝙤𝙧 𝙎𝙚𝙫𝙚𝙣 𝘽𝙧𝙤𝙩𝙝𝙚𝙧𝙨” 𝙞𝙨 𝙖𝙡𝙡 𝙗𝙤𝙞𝙨𝙩𝙚𝙧𝙤𝙪𝙨 𝙛𝙪𝙣 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙧𝙤𝙢𝙖𝙣𝙘𝙚 𝙩𝙝𝙖𝙩 𝙝𝙖𝙧𝙠𝙚𝙣𝙨 𝙗𝙖𝙘𝙠 𝙩𝙤 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙜𝙡𝙤𝙧𝙮 𝙙𝙖𝙮𝙨 𝙤𝙛 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙢𝙤𝙫𝙞𝙚 𝙢𝙪𝙨𝙞𝙘𝙖𝙡.

The production will be staged in the Union High School hall on Thursday and Friday, 11 and 12 April, at 18:30. 𝗧𝗶𝗰𝗸𝗲𝘁𝘀 𝘄𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝗯𝗲 𝗮𝘃𝗮𝗶𝗹𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 from the Union High School foyer in Donkin Street as of Wednesday, 13 March, at R60 for adults and R30 for scholars.

It is with great pleasure that we announce the appointment of the new members who will join the Union High School, Graaff-Reinet SGB for a 3-year term until 2027.

𝙏𝙝𝙚𝙨𝙚 𝙙𝙚𝙙𝙞𝙘𝙖𝙩𝙚𝙙 𝙞𝙣𝙙𝙞𝙫𝙞𝙙𝙪𝙖𝙡𝙨 𝙝𝙖𝙫𝙚 𝙗𝙚𝙚𝙣 𝙘𝙝𝙤𝙨𝙚𝙣 𝙩𝙤 𝙨𝙚𝙧𝙫𝙚 𝙤𝙪𝙧 𝙨𝙘𝙝𝙤𝙤𝙡 𝙘𝙤𝙢𝙢𝙪𝙣𝙞𝙩𝙮 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙚𝙣𝙨𝙪𝙧𝙚 𝙩𝙝𝙖𝙩 𝙐𝙣𝙞𝙤𝙣 𝙧𝙚𝙢𝙖𝙞𝙣𝙨 𝙖 𝙡𝙚𝙖𝙙𝙚𝙧 𝙞𝙣 𝙚𝙙𝙪𝙘𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣𝙖𝙡 𝙚𝙭𝙘𝙚𝙡𝙡𝙚𝙣𝙘𝙚.

We firmly believe that behind every good school is a team of leaders with vision and a passionate desire to make things better. With this in mind, we are confident that the newly appointed members of the SGB, in collaboration with our Headmaster Mr William Pringle, will bring their expertise and commitment to propel Union to new heights.

Together, we are confident that we will continue to build upon the strong foundation of the Union High School’s proud 105-year history and create an even brighter future for our learners and community.

Brogan Koeberg, Nombulelo Ncombo, Jemae-Mari Davids, Viwe Ngxekisa, Lina Tadesse, Taegen Hamid, Ciara Kivedo, Milani Pongoma, Lolwethu Dayimani (absent on photo) and Sarah Jacobs successfully completed their 𝗟𝗘𝗩𝗘𝗟 𝟭 𝗙𝗜𝗥𝗦𝗧 𝗔𝗜𝗗 𝗖𝗢𝗨𝗥𝗦𝗘 in February, for which they were presented with a certificate during a recent school assembly.

Union High School, Graaff-Reinet’s 𝗔𝗥𝗧 𝗖𝗟𝗨𝗕 members have been meeting twice a week this term to explore the captivating world of Art Nouveau posters and portraits.

Their main focus has been on developing the skill of gridding, which enables them to create precise and accurate reproductions of renowned artworks by artists like Toulouse Lautrec and Edward Beardsley.

𝘉𝘺 𝘮𝘢𝘴𝘵𝘦𝘳𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘵𝘦𝘤𝘩𝘯𝘪𝘲𝘶𝘦 𝘰𝘧 𝘨𝘳𝘪𝘥𝘥𝘪𝘯𝘨, 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘤𝘭𝘶𝘣 𝘮𝘦𝘮𝘣𝘦𝘳𝘴 𝘩𝘢𝘷𝘦 𝘣𝘦𝘦𝘯 𝘢𝘣𝘭𝘦 𝘵𝘰 𝘤𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘵𝘦 𝘦𝘹𝘤𝘦𝘱𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯𝘢𝘭 𝘭𝘪𝘯𝘦 𝘥𝘳𝘢𝘸𝘪𝘯𝘨𝘴 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘤𝘢𝘱𝘵𝘶𝘳𝘦 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘦𝘴𝘴𝘦𝘯𝘤𝘦 𝘰𝘧 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘰𝘳𝘪𝘨𝘪𝘯𝘢𝘭 𝘢𝘳𝘵𝘸𝘰𝘳𝘬𝘴. 𝘚𝘰𝘮𝘦 𝘰𝘧 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘮𝘦𝘮𝘣𝘦𝘳𝘴 𝘩𝘢𝘷𝘦 𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘯 𝘵𝘢𝘬𝘦𝘯 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘪𝘳 𝘴𝘬𝘪𝘭𝘭𝘴 𝘢 𝘴𝘵𝘦𝘱 𝘧𝘶𝘳𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘳 𝘣𝘺 𝘪𝘯𝘤𝘰𝘳𝘱𝘰𝘳𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘱𝘢𝘪𝘯𝘵 𝘪𝘯𝘵𝘰 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘪𝘳 𝘤𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯𝘴.

Through their exploration of Art Nouveau, the club members have gained valuable insights into color mixing, the importance of drawing with the eye rather than relying solely on the brain’s perception, and the significance of achieving accuracy in their artwork.

Overall, 𝙩𝙝𝙞𝙨 𝙩𝙚𝙧𝙢 𝙝𝙖𝙨 𝙗𝙚𝙚𝙣 𝙖 𝙩𝙧𝙖𝙣𝙨𝙛𝙤𝙧𝙢𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙫𝙚 𝙚𝙭𝙥𝙚𝙧𝙞𝙚𝙣𝙘𝙚 𝙛𝙤𝙧 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝘼𝙧𝙩 𝘾𝙡𝙪𝙗 𝙢𝙚𝙢𝙗𝙚𝙧𝙨, as they have not only honed their artistic skills but also deepened their understanding and appreciation of the artistic process.
