Union High School Grade 6 learner 𝗧𝗮𝘆𝗹𝗼𝗿 𝗝𝗮𝗰𝗼𝗯𝘀 proudly represented the Eastern Cape Elephants at the Synergy Tennis Tournament held in Cradock this past weekend.

𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘯𝘵 𝘴𝘢𝘸 𝘵𝘦𝘢𝘮𝘴 𝘧𝘳𝘰𝘮 𝘍𝘳𝘦𝘦 𝘚𝘵𝘢𝘵𝘦, 𝘕𝘰𝘳𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘳𝘯 𝘊𝘢𝘱𝘦 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘌𝘢𝘴𝘵𝘦𝘳𝘯 𝘊𝘢𝘱𝘦 𝘈𝘭𝘰𝘦𝘴 𝘤𝘰𝘮𝘱𝘦𝘵𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘪𝘯 𝘢𝘯 𝘦𝘹𝘤𝘪𝘵𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘸𝘦𝘦𝘬𝘦𝘯𝘥 𝘰𝘧 𝘵𝘦𝘯𝘯𝘪𝘴.

Taylor and her team finished as runners-up in their age group, narrowly missing out on the top spot to the EC Aloes after impressive wins over both the Northern Cape and Free State teams.

𝗧𝗮𝘆𝗹𝗼𝗿 𝘄𝗼𝗻 𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝗼𝗳 𝗵𝗲𝗿 𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗴𝗹𝗲𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗺𝗶𝘅𝗲𝗱 𝗱𝗼𝘂𝗯𝗹𝗲𝘀 𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗰𝗵𝗲𝘀 played over the two days – a truly outstanding achievement!

Congratulations to Union High School Grade 7 learner, 𝗔𝗻𝗴𝗲𝗹𝗶𝗾𝘂𝗲 𝗞𝘆𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗮-𝗞𝗮𝗯𝗼𝘇𝗮, on a fantastic performance at the 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟱 𝗙𝗿𝗲𝗱𝗮 𝗕𝗮𝗿𝗻𝗮𝗿𝗱 𝗚𝗮𝗹𝗮, held in Oudtshoorn from 9 to 12 October.

Competing against some very strong swimmers, Angelique showed incredible determination throughout the tough, 𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻-𝗽𝗮𝗰𝗸𝗲𝗱 𝗱𝗮𝘆𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗲𝘁𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻.

Her hard work paid off as she managed to achieve a personal best (PB) and delivered excellent results overall. 𝘞𝘦 𝘢𝘳𝘦 𝘴𝘰 𝘱𝘳𝘰𝘶𝘥 𝘰𝘧 𝘺𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘦𝘧𝘧𝘰𝘳𝘵, 𝘢𝘵𝘵𝘪𝘵𝘶𝘥𝘦 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘸𝘢𝘺 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘤𝘰𝘯𝘵𝘪𝘯𝘶𝘦 𝘵𝘰 𝘮𝘢𝘬𝘦 𝘜𝘯𝘪𝘰𝘯 𝘱𝘳𝘰𝘶𝘥, 𝘈𝘯𝘨𝘦𝘭𝘪𝘲𝘶𝘦!

Union High School’s u/14 cricket side recently enjoyed a fantastic tour to the 𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗰𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗚𝘆𝗺𝗻𝗮𝘀𝗶𝘂𝗺 𝗙𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗮𝗹 held over the holidays.

The young team played five matches, winning three and losing two – 𝘢 𝘤𝘰𝘮𝘮𝘦𝘯𝘥𝘢𝘣𝘭𝘦 𝘴𝘩𝘰𝘸𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘳𝘦𝘧𝘭𝘦𝘤𝘵𝘦𝘥 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘪𝘳 𝘨𝘳𝘰𝘸𝘵𝘩, 𝘵𝘦𝘢𝘮𝘸𝘰𝘳𝘬 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘥𝘦𝘵𝘦𝘳𝘮𝘪𝘯𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯.

The boys embraced every challenge with enthusiasm, representing Union with pride and spirit both on and off the field.

𝗧𝗵𝗲𝗶𝗿 𝗰𝗮𝗺𝗽𝗮𝗶𝗴𝗻 𝗯𝗲𝗴𝗮𝗻 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗮 𝘀𝗼𝗹𝗶𝗱 𝟯𝟬-𝗿𝘂𝗻 𝘃𝗶𝗰𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘆 𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿 𝗖𝘂𝗿𝗿𝗼, setting the tone for the festival with disciplined bowling and sharp fielding. Though they fell short against a strong Parel Vallei side, the team bounced back superbly to secure an emphatic 89-run win over Boland Landbou, thanks in large part to a mature and composed 65 not out from 𝗥𝘆𝗮𝗻 𝗖𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗲𝘁𝘁.

𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘤𝘭𝘢𝘴𝘩 𝘢𝘨𝘢𝘪𝘯𝘴𝘵 𝘉𝘦𝘭𝘭𝘷𝘪𝘭𝘭𝘦 𝘏𝘪𝘨𝘩 𝘸𝘢𝘴 𝘢 𝘵𝘪𝘨𝘩𝘵, 𝘩𝘢𝘳𝘥-𝘧𝘰𝘶𝘨𝘩𝘵 𝘢𝘧𝘧𝘢𝘪𝘳, 𝘸𝘪𝘵𝘩 𝘜𝘯𝘪𝘰𝘯 𝘯𝘢𝘳𝘳𝘰𝘸𝘭𝘺 𝘭𝘰𝘴𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘣𝘺 𝘧𝘪𝘷𝘦 𝘸𝘪𝘤𝘬𝘦𝘵𝘴, 𝘣𝘶𝘵 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘣𝘰𝘺𝘴 𝘴𝘢𝘷𝘦𝘥 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘪𝘳 𝘣𝘦𝘴𝘵 𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘭𝘢𝘴𝘵 – a confident chase against host school Worcester Gymnasium, where they overhauled 114 runs in just 17.3 overs.

𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗳𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗰𝗵 𝘄𝗮𝘀 𝗮 𝗵𝗶𝗴𝗵𝗹𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗳𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗮𝗹, 𝘀𝗵𝗼𝘄𝗰𝗮𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘁𝗲𝗮𝗺’𝘀 𝗴𝗿𝗼𝘄𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗺𝗮𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗼𝘀𝘂𝗿𝗲. Once again, Collett led the charge with another outstanding 65, an extraordinary effort for a 13-year-old playing well above his age group.

Union High School 2nd Team Shines in Dominant Win Over Volkskool 1st Team!

Union High School’s 2nd cricket team delivered a commanding performance against Volkskool’s 1st team in a recent T20 clash.

After winning the toss, Union opted to bat first and posted a competitive total of 147 runs. The batting innings was anchored by Neelon Fourie, who impressed with a top score of 48 runs off 38 balls, showing great composure and stroke play.

In response, Volkskool struggled against Union’s relentless bowling attack and were bowled out well short of the target. The standout bowler was Dwayne Koeberg, who was 3 change bowler with an excellent spell of 3 wickets in 4 overs.

Union High School’s 2nd team secured a comprehensive 80-run victory, a testament to their skill, discipline, and team spirit.

1st XI T20 Match

On a bright and competitive day of cricket, Union High School 1st XI faced off against Framesby High School in a T20 encounter. Winning the toss, Union High School elected to bowl first.

Framesby made full use of the batting conditions, posting a formidable 169 runs in their 20 overs. Despite the challenging target, Mohammed Ahmed stood out with an impressive bowling performance, claiming 3 wickets for 36 runs in his 4 overs  a commendable effort under pressure.

In response, Union High School began their chase with a positive mindset but struggled to keep up with the required run rate. Ultimately, they were bowled out for 83 runs, falling short of the target.

• Result: Framesby won by 86 runs
• Best Bowler (Union High School): Mohammed Ahmed – 3/36 (4 overs)

U15 Match

In the U15 clash, Framesby batted first and delivered an explosive performance with the bat, setting a daunting total of 305 runs.

Union High School’s bowlers worked hard to contain the opposition, with Thimna Qofo delivering a notable performance by picking up 3 crucial wickets, showcasing both skill and perseverance.

Chasing a steep target, Union High School U15 showed great determination but were ultimately bowled out for 122 runs, falling short by 183 runs.

• Result: Framesby U15 won by 183 runs
• Best Bowler (Union High School): Thimna Qofo – 3 wickets

Both teams displayed great sportsmanship and effort throughout the matches. Union High School will take valuable lessons from the encounters as they continue to develop their cricketing potential

Union High School vs Masizakhe Cricket Club
Union High School claimed a confident 8-wicket victory over Masizakhe Cricket Club in an exciting T20 match.

After winning the toss, Union High School elected to bowl first and made excellent use of the conditions. Masizakhe Cricket Club were restricted to 95 all out in the 15th over, struggling to build momentum against a disciplined bowling attack. Trystan Hulleman was the pick of the bowlers, finishing with an impressive 3-wicket haul Imitha with to wickets in his first match for the first Team well done.

In response, Union High School’s top order delivered a composed batting performance. Despite losing a wicket during the powerplay, the team remained unfazed. De Beer and Yaaseen Kazi anchored the innings with a solid partnership, sticking to their game plan and rotating the strike well.

Yaaseen Kazi scored a valuable 37 runs before being dismissed, while De Beer played a mature knock, finishing not out on 28 after opening the innings and guiding the team home.

Union High School reached the target comfortably, securing the win with 8 wickets in hand.

A special mention goes to Daniel Marais and Xavier Barlow, who proudly represented the school in their 50th match – a remarkable milestone.
