Junior Cricket vs Laer Volkskool – Results

Our U11A team were narrowly beaten by Laer Volkskool, losing by just 4 runs in a tight contest.

Volkskool scored 81/4 in 20 overs, with wickets shared by Iminathi Sididi (2), Kevin de Klerk, and Mark Copeman.

Union replied with 77/7, Micheal Maritz top-scoring with 18 (35).

UHS U13A team delivered a dominant performance to claim a 159-run victory.

Batting first, Union posted 215/3, led by a brilliant 122 (66) from Dante Mills and 60 (47) by Josh Kingwill.

Volkskool were bowled out for 56, with Josh Kingwill (3-5), Nathaneal Phillip (3-12), and Sintayu Kaitro (2-5) starring with the ball.

A special milestone was achieved today as Josh Kingwill surpassed 1000 runs as an U13 cricketer over the past two years, a remarkable achievement.

Match Report: Union U11A vs Cradock Primary

Union U11A claimed a solid 47-run win over Cradock Primary.

Union posted 99/2, with Mark Copeman (34)* and Ben Wormald (32) building a key partnership.

Cradock were bowled out for 52, as Mark Copeman (4/8), Liam Raath (2/2) and Kevin de Klerk (2/10) starred with the ball.

A superb all-round team performance!

Match Report: Union U/13A vs Cradock

Union U/13A claimed a convincing 100-run win over Cradock.

Edwin Holmes (45*), Dante Mills (38), and Kari Stern (24) guided Union to 149/6.

Cradock were bowled out for 49, with Nathaneal Phillips (3/9) and Josh Kingwill (2/5) leading the attack.

Our learners participated in Hoรซr Volkskoolโ€™s very first ๐—ง๐—ต๐—ฒ๐—ผ ๐——รถ๐—ฟ๐—ณ๐—น๐—ถ๐—ป๐—ด ๐—ฅ๐—ฒ๐—น๐—ฎ๐˜† ๐—˜๐˜ƒ๐—ฒ๐—ป๐˜ today – and what a fun-filled afternoon it was!

The day saw athletes from Union, Volkskool, Asherville, Gill and Spandau give it their all in a variety of relay races, from the fast-paced 4x100m to the challenging 4x400m events.

While we might not have taken the overall win – with Volkskool finishing first on 73 points and Union close behind on 65 points – we certainly made our presence known, filling the lanes with Union spirit and determination!

โ€ข ๐—๐—ผ๐˜€๐—ต ๐—ž๐—ถ๐—ป๐—ด๐˜„๐—ถ๐—น๐—น impressed with the bat, scoring a phenomenal 112 runs off 84 balls against Elkanah House.

Cricket vs St Andrew’s – Results

Union High School recently participated in a two-day cricket fixture against St Andrewโ€™s High School, with both the U15 and 1st XI teams in action. The matches were played in good spirit, offering both teams valuable experience

U15 MATCH REPORT

Union High Schoolโ€™s U15 team bowled first, with St Andrewโ€™s posting a commanding total of 352 runs in their first innings. Despite the pressure, Khewzi delivered an outstanding bowling performance, finishing with figures of:

  • 15 overs,
  • 2 maidens,
  • 82 runs,
  • 6 wickets.

Well done, Khewzi, on an exceptional display of bowling skill and perseverance.

Union Highโ€™s batting line-up struggled against a disciplined St Andrewโ€™s bowling attack, being bowled out for 22 runs in the first innings and 47 runs in the second. St Andrewโ€™s U15 team secured victory by an innings and 283 runs.

1st XI MATCH REPORT

Union High Schoolโ€™s 1st XI captain, Yaaseen Kazi, won the toss and elected to bat first. The team posted a total of 134 all out, with Leander Kraai top-scoring with a well-played 44 runs.

In response, St Andrewโ€™s were bowled out for 79 runs, thanks to a disciplined bowling effort. The best bowling performance came with figures of 4 wickets for 28 runs Yaaseen Kazi.

In the second innings, Union High batted positively, reaching a lead of 255 runs before declaring. Captain Yaaseen Kazi led from the front with a fine innings of 90 runs, narrowly missing out on a well-deserved century. He also contributed with the ball, picking up 2 wickets.

The match concluded as a winning draw in Union High Schoolโ€™s favour, thanks to an excellent all-round performance by the 1st XI.

1st XI vs Marlow – Results

Union High School won the toss and elected to bat first in what promised to be a competitive T20 fixture against Marlow. Union posted a total of 125 runs in their allotted 20 overs, with top-order batsman Yaaseen Kazi leading the charge, scoring a well-constructed 44 runs off 31 deliveries. He was well-supported by Sibabalwe, who contributed 17 runs off 16 balls in a crucial middle-order partnership.

Marlowโ€™s bowlers maintained pressure throughout the innings, restricting Union to a modest total on a decent batting surface.

In response, Marlow faced early pressure, losing quick wickets within the first three overs. However, a composed middle-order partnership steadied their innings, allowing them to rebuild and chase down the target. Marlow eventually secured victory by 5 wickets, showing depth and resilience in their batting lineup.

Despite the result, Unionโ€™s standout performer was once again Yaaseen Kazi, who not only impressed with the bat but also delivered an exceptional spell with the ball, finishing with figures of 4 overs, 1 wicket for just 12 runs. His disciplined bowling earned him recognition as Unionโ€™s Best Bowler of the match.

Cape Schools Cricket Festival – Results

The 2025 Cape Schools Festival started on Saturday, 4 October and concluded on Tuesday, 7 October, with 12 schools from the Western Cape, Eastern Cape and Free State attending.

The first two days were played under a one-day, two innings format, in which 120 overs were played over the whole day.ย  Days three and four were standard 50-over fixtures.

Selborne College vs Union High

Selborne won the toss in a declaration match and elected to bat first, posting a commanding 350 runs.

Standout Performances:

  • Trystan Hulleman: 6 wickets in 12 overs for 78 runs.
  • Richard Murray: Scored a well-played half-century.

Excellent efforts from both players in a challenging encounter.

Union won the toss and batted first, scoring 298 all out. Unfortunately, six dropped catches in the field proved costly.

Bowling Highlights:

Union High vs Wynberg (T20 Match)

Union batted first, scoring 110 runs. Wynberg responded with aggressive intent, chasing the target in just 10.4 overs with 9 wickets in hand. A tough result, but a valuable learning experience for the team.

St Andrewโ€™s won the toss and batted first, scoring 315 runs.
Union, in reply, were bowled out for 138, resulting in a 177-run loss.
