Our Top 6 boysโ€™ and girlsโ€™ tennis players took to the courts in challenging, windy conditions as they competed in both singles and doubles against a visiting Cradock High School this afternoon.

๐—”๐—น๐—ฒ๐˜… ๐—›๐˜‚๐—ป๐˜๐—ฒ๐—ฟ produced a superb spell against Stirling High School, claiming an impressive 5 wickets for just 30 runs in his 7 overs. ๐—ฌ๐—ฎ๐—ฎ๐˜€๐—ฒ๐—ฒ๐—ป ๐—ž๐—ฎ๐˜‡๐—ถ was simply sensational against Westering High School, taking a remarkable 7 wickets for only 18 runs in 7 overs. Adding to the accolades, ๐—๐—ผ๐˜€๐—ต ๐—ž๐—ถ๐—ป๐—ด๐˜„๐—ถ๐—น๐—น delivered a true all-round performance against Westering, finishing with 5 wickets for 18 runs in 9.3 overs and then backing it up with a well-earned 56 runs with the bat.

Founders’ Weekend – Cricket Results

1st TEAM REPORT

Union High School 1st XI faced the Old Boys in a 50-over match. The Old Boys set a formidable total of 396, with standout batting from Jonathan Crankshaw (155) and Michael Biggs (106). Best Union High bowling came from Yaaseen Kazi (10 overs, 2 maidens, 38 runs) and Sibabalwe Mbutye (3 wickets). 

In reply, Union High struggled against disciplined bowling, but young Callum Jacobs showed great determination, scoring 88. Old Boysโ€™ Carl Bezuidenhout impressed with 3 wickets for just 10 runs in 5 overs. 

U15 REPORT

Union bowled first and managed to restrict the Old boys to 187. A good bowling performance by all the bowlers. Union then went in to bat and made a good chase managing to come with in 30runs of the target.ย  But unfortunately fell short.

Union lost by 27 runs. Special mention to Dante Mills 29, Ryan collet 19.

2nd Team Report

The Old Boys posted a commanding 303 all out in 37.4 overs, driven by a strong top-order performance. For Union High, Warren Barlow (2/46) and Carl Veriel (3/36) provided the key breakthroughs, briefly slowing the scoring. 

In reply, Union High 2nd XI struggled to build momentum and were dismissed for 80. A special mention goes to Qhama Jacobs for his determined 25 runs.

Founders’ Weekend – Hockey Results

Our 1st hockey team had the wonderful opportunity to ๐—ฑ๐˜‚๐˜€๐˜ ๐—ผ๐—ณ๐—ณ ๐˜๐—ต๐—ฒ ๐—ฟ๐˜‚๐˜€๐˜ this past Friday afternoon with a friendly match against the 2026 Foundersโ€™ team.

Our girls rose to the challenge and secured a solid 7-0 win against a formidable side, making it a lovely and encouraging start to the year for our hockey team.

During the prizegiving ceremony at the end of the day’s play, the award for the day’s best defender went to Katelyn Trollip, with the best goal being awarded to Leigh-Ann Murray.

Senior Interhouse Athletics – Results

From the moment the cheerleaders made their unforgettable grand entrance – arriving in true show-stopping style in a police van and a fire truck – the tone was set for an exciting day at Union High Schoolโ€™s 2026 ๐—ฆ๐—˜๐—ก๐—œ๐—ข๐—ฅ ๐—œ๐—ก๐—ง๐—˜๐—ฅ๐—›๐—ข๐—จ๐—ฆ๐—˜ ๐—”๐—ง๐—›๐—Ÿ๐—˜๐—ง๐—œ๐—–๐—ฆ, held on Wednesday, 21 January.

The standout athlete of the day was ๐——๐—ฎ๐—ป๐˜๐—ฒ ๐— ๐—ถ๐—น๐—น๐˜€, who achieved an impressive 701 points on the APE tables for his shot put performance in the u15 boysโ€™ category, throwing a distance of 12.14 m. In the u15 girlsโ€™ division, ๐—ž๐—ฎ๐—ฟ๐—ถ ๐—ฆ๐˜๐—ฒ๐—ฟ๐—ป earned three first places in Shot Put, 400m and 3 000m; ๐—ฅ๐—ฎ๐—ฐ๐—ต๐—ฒ๐—น ๐—ช๐—ฒ๐—ป๐—ต๐—ฎ๐—บ dominated with victories in the 200m, 800m, 1 500m and Javelin and ๐—ฆ๐—ฎ๐—บ๐—ฎ๐—ป๐˜๐—ต๐—ฎ ๐— ๐˜‚๐˜€๐—ฎ๐—ธ๐—ฎ๐˜€๐—ฎ claimed first place in the 100m, 200m and High Jump.

For the u15 boys, ๐—๐—ผ๐—ฟ๐—ฑ๐—ฎ๐—ป ๐— ๐—ฎ๐—ฟ๐—ถ๐˜๐˜‡ secured first place in the 100m, 200m, 3 000m and High Jump, while ๐——๐—ฎ๐—ป๐˜๐—ฒ ๐— ๐—ถ๐—น๐—น๐˜€ also won both Discus and Shot Put. In the u17 girlsโ€™ category, ๐—ก๐—ฎ๐—ฑ๐—ถ๐—ป๐—ฒ ๐— ๐˜‚๐—ฟ๐—ฟ๐—ฎ๐˜† triumphed in the 800m, 1 500m and 3 000m and ๐—๐—ฎ๐˜€๐—บ๐—ถ๐—ป๐—ฒ ๐—”๐—ฏ๐—ฒ๐—ฟ๐—ฐ๐—ฟ๐—ผ๐—บ๐—ฏ๐—ฒ recorded wins in the 100m, 200m and Discus.

The u17 boys saw ๐—–๐—ฎ๐—น๐—น๐˜‚๐—บ ๐—๐—ฎ๐—ฐ๐—ผ๐—ฏ๐˜€ take first place in the 1 500m and 3 000m, ๐—ค๐—ต๐—ฎ๐—บ๐—ฎ ๐—ฆ๐—ผ๐—น๐—ผ๐—บ๐—ผ๐—ป win both the Long Jump and High Jump and ๐—Ÿ๐˜‚๐˜ƒ๐—ฒ๐—น๐—ฎ ๐— ๐—ฎ๐—ธ๐—ฎ๐˜‚๐—น๐—ฎ deliver an outstanding performance with four victories in the 100m, 200m, 800m and Shot Put. For the u19 boys, ๐—Ÿ๐—ถ๐˜€๐—ผ ๐—•๐—ผ๐—ผ๐—ถ dominated the sprints with first places in the 100m, 200m and 400m, as well as the Long Jump, while ๐—•๐—ฒ๐—ป ๐—Ÿ๐—ฒ๐—บ๐—ธ๐—ฒ took top honours in the 800m and 1 500m.

NMBA Open Water Championship

On Sunday, 18 January, Union High School, learner Gerda Clarke took on challenging conditions at the ๐—ก๐— ๐—•๐—” ๐—ข๐—ฝ๐—ฒ๐—ป ๐—ช๐—ฎ๐˜๐—ฒ๐—ฟ ๐—–๐—ต๐—ฎ๐—บ๐—ฝ๐—ถ๐—ผ๐—ป๐˜€๐—ต๐—ถ๐—ฝ๐˜€ at Marina Martinique, Jeffreys Bay.

Swimming a demanding 3km race, Gerda placed third in the 16-18 age category, finishing with an impressive time of 55:58.

We are incredibly proud of Grade 7 learner ๐—ง๐—ฎ๐˜†๐—น๐—ผ๐—ฟ ๐—๐—ฎ๐—ฐ๐—ผ๐—ฏ๐˜€, who recently represented the Eastern Cape Elephants at the Interprovincial Tennis Tournament held in Bloemfontein from 8 to 11 January.

Competing in her very first IPT for the Eastern Cape Elephants, ๐—ง๐—ฎ๐˜†๐—น๐—ผ๐—ฟ ๐—ณ๐—ฎ๐—ฐ๐—ฒ๐—ฑ ๐—ฒ๐˜…๐—ฐ๐—ฒ๐—ฝ๐˜๐—ถ๐—ผ๐—ป๐—ฎ๐—น๐—น๐˜† ๐˜๐—ผ๐˜‚๐—ด๐—ต ๐—ผ๐—ฝ๐—ฝ๐—ผ๐˜€๐—ถ๐˜๐—ถ๐—ผ๐—ป while playing as the No. 3 seed.

Over the four days, Taylor spent an impressive ยฑ13 hours on court in singles alone, playing a total of six singles matches, along with six doubles and six mixed doubles matches.

The Eastern Cape Elephants finished 12th out of 16 teams, placing ahead of the Eastern Cape Aloes team who came 13th.
