Union High School’s u13A cricket team enjoyed a competitive and rewarding weekend at the 𝗪𝗼𝗼𝗱𝗿𝗶𝗱𝗴𝗲 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝟮𝟬 𝗙𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗮𝗹, showcasing great promise across three hard-fought matches.

𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗯𝗼𝘆𝘀 𝗴𝗼𝘁 𝗼𝗳𝗳 𝘁𝗼 𝗮 𝗳𝗹𝘆𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗿𝘁 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗶𝗿 𝗼𝗽𝗲𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗼𝘂𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿 against Knysna, posting a competitive 97 in 19 overs. 𝗕𝗲𝗻 𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗺𝗮𝗹𝗱 and 𝗠𝗶𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗲𝗹 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝗶𝘁𝘇 anchored the innings with composed knocks of 23 apiece, setting the platform for a superb bowling performance. Union’s bowlers applied relentless pressure, dismissing Knysna for just 58 and 𝘀𝗲𝗮𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘃𝗶𝗻𝗰𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝟯𝟵-𝗿𝘂𝗻 𝘃𝗶𝗰𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘆 through disciplined and intelligent cricket.

𝗚𝗮𝗺𝗲 𝘁𝘄𝗼 𝘀𝗮𝘄 𝗨𝗻𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗳𝗮𝗰𝗲 𝗮 𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗼𝗻𝗴 𝗟𝗼𝗿𝗿𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗲 𝘀𝗶𝗱𝗲. Batting first, Union worked hard for their 70/8, with 𝗦𝗶𝗺𝗼𝘀𝗲𝗻𝗱𝘆𝗲𝗯𝗼 𝗠𝗰𝗶𝗻𝗴𝗮 top-scoring with a determined 24 and 𝗚𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘁 𝗠𝘂𝗿𝗿𝗮𝘆 adding a valuable unbeaten 18.

𝘋𝘦𝘴𝘱𝘪𝘵𝘦 𝘢 𝘴𝘱𝘪𝘳𝘪𝘵𝘦𝘥 𝘦𝘧𝘧𝘰𝘳𝘵 𝘪𝘯 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘧𝘪𝘦𝘭𝘥, 𝘓𝘰𝘳𝘳𝘢𝘪𝘯𝘦 𝘤𝘩𝘢𝘴𝘦𝘥 𝘥𝘰𝘸𝘯 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘵𝘢𝘳𝘨𝘦𝘵, 𝘩𝘢𝘯𝘥𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘜𝘯𝘪𝘰𝘯 𝘢 𝘯𝘢𝘳𝘳𝘰𝘸 𝘴𝘦𝘵𝘣𝘢𝘤𝘬 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘩𝘪𝘨𝘩𝘭𝘪𝘨𝘩𝘵𝘦𝘥 𝘷𝘢𝘭𝘶𝘢𝘣𝘭𝘦 𝘭𝘦𝘴𝘴𝘰𝘯𝘴 𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘺𝘰𝘶𝘯𝘨 𝘴𝘪𝘥𝘦.

The team responded in outstanding fashion in their final match against Muir, producing a dominant all-round performance. Muir were restricted to 46/7 through tight, controlled bowling, before Union chased down the target with confidence and intent.

𝗠𝗶𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗲𝗹 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝗶𝘁𝘇 once again impressed with an unbeaten 20, guiding Union to an emphatic 8-wicket victory and rounding off a weekend full of growth, teamwork and encouraging performances.

U15A Cricket: Union vs Westering

Union High School’s u15A cricketers produced a great performance against Westering High School on Saturday, 17 January.

After losing the toss and being sent in to field, 𝗨𝗻𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗺𝗮𝗱𝗲 𝗮𝗻 𝗶𝗺𝗺𝗲𝗱𝗶𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗶𝗺𝗽𝗮𝗰𝘁, with Thimna Qomfo striking early to remove two batsmen and apply pressure.

Westering steadied the ship to reach 144/5 at drinks, but it was after the break that Union’s determination shone through. 𝗜𝗻𝘀𝗽𝗶𝗿𝗲𝗱 𝗯𝗼𝘄𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘀𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗽 𝗳𝗶𝗲𝗹𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘀𝗮𝘄 𝗪𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗯𝗼𝘄𝗹𝗲𝗱 𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝟭𝟱𝟳, with a standout spell from Josh Kingwill, who claimed an outstanding 5/24, well supported by Thimna Qomfo (2/17), Salmaan Steele (1/14) and Nathaneal Philips (2/43).

𝗖𝗵𝗮𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝟭𝟱𝟴 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘃𝗶𝗰𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘆, Union got off to a positive start thanks to solid contributions from Salmaan Steele and Jordan Maritz. A flurry of wickets threatened to derail the chase, but Josh Kingwill once again rose to the occasion.

Valuable runs from Salmaan (21) and Jordan (22) ensured 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝘄𝗮𝘀 𝗮 𝘁𝗿𝘂𝗲 𝘁𝗲𝗮𝗺 𝗲𝗳𝗳𝗼𝗿𝘁 and a well-deserved victory to be proud of.

1^st Team report

Union High School’s 1st XI produced a commanding all-round performance in their 𝟱𝟬-𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿 𝗳𝗶𝘅𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗮𝗴𝗮𝗶𝗻𝘀𝘁 𝗪𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗛𝗶𝗴𝗵 𝗦𝗰𝗵𝗼𝗼𝗹 yesterday, laying the foundation for victory with a superb display in the field.

After Westering won the toss and chose to bat, 𝗨𝗻𝗶𝗼𝗻’𝘀 𝗯𝗼𝘄𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗮𝗰𝗸 𝘁𝗼𝗼𝗸 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗼𝗹 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗼𝘂𝘁𝘀𝗲𝘁, applying relentless pressure and showing excellent discipline. Westering were dismissed for just 68, with the standout performance coming from 𝗬𝗮𝗮𝘀𝗲𝗲𝗻 𝗞𝗮𝘇𝗶, whose outstanding spell of 7.3 overs for only 18 runs yielded an incredible seven wickets. Dwayne Koeberg and Leander Kraai anchored the innings with a confident 50-run partnership, calmly guiding their side towards the target and removing any doubt about the outcome. Union crossed the line with eight wickets in hand, rounding off a dominant performance that highlighted both their bowling strength and batting depth.
