Learners Shine At Karoo Eisteddfod

In spite of yet another disruptive year, the cultural activities of Union High School continued in the background.
The highlight of the year was certainly the more than 100 learners who participated in 82 items for the Karoo Eisteddfod in the categories of Music, Art, Drama, Speech, Photography and Creative Writing.
We are truly grateful to our educators, Ms Jenny Street, Mrs Hanli Rose-Innes, Mrs Bronwen Langmead, Mrs Sanette Brink, Ms Zelda van Rooyen and Miss Paula-Jane Phillips, who prepared and entered the learners in the different categories.
Our learners did exceptionally well, with marks ranging from Triple Gold to Silver.
Not one learner got under 70%.
๐Ÿ“ท Over the next couple of weeks, weโ€™ll feature the achievers in each category, but weโ€™d like to start it off today with Camran Swartz, Joy Merifield, Tyra Binney and Ababalwa Matutu, seen here on the accompanying photos, who each received a Triple Gold certificate for their 2D artwork entries.

Lemke Brothers Shine At Biathlon

Brothers Mark and Ben Lemke represented Union High School on Saturday, 6 November, at the EP Biathlon League 3 event in Gqeberha.
Both boys gave it their best on the track and in the pool, enjoying a strong finish, with Ben winning the swimming event and Mark coming in third.
(Mark and Ben are in Grade 5 and 7, respectively.)
Union High School is extremely proud of these two biathletes and wish them all the best for the rest of their events this season!

Well Done Tara!

6-A-Side Hockey Tournament

What do hockey skills, tutus, face paint and funky socks have in common?
In truth, not much really, but they could all be found at Union High Schoolโ€™s AstroTurf yesterday afternoon where a ๐—™๐—จ๐—ก afternoon of 6-A-Side hockey was contested!
All the learners, from Grade 5 through to Grade 12 โ€“ boys and girls – had the opportunity to participate in the tournament.
A total of nine junior teams and nine senior teams entered. The games were played in a round-robin competition format throughout the course of the afternoon.
This proved to be a spectacularly fun afternoon with great participation from learners all-round.
(It was particularly entertaining to watch the educators and coaching staff take to the field.)
