Union High School, Graaff-Reinet‘s annual 𝗜𝗡𝗧𝗘𝗥𝗦𝗖𝗛𝗢𝗢𝗟𝗦 𝗔𝗦𝗦𝗘𝗠𝗕𝗟𝗬 will take place on Friday, 7 August, at 09:00 in the school hall.
This year, we are delighted to welcome Old Unionite 𝗩𝗮𝘂𝗹𝗱𝗶 𝗖𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗹𝘀𝗲 as our guest speaker. Vauldi represents the Class of 2001, which celebrates its 25-year reunion this year.
𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗺𝗺𝗲 𝘄𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝗶𝗻𝗰𝗹𝘂𝗱𝗲 the Headmaster’s Address, performances by the junior and senior choirs, a message from our Head Prefects, and the introduction of our 1st rugby and 1st hockey teams ahead of the weekend’s Interschools fixtures.
𝘈𝘭𝘭 𝘮𝘦𝘮𝘣𝘦𝘳𝘴 𝘰𝘧 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘜𝘯𝘪𝘰𝘯 𝘤𝘰𝘮𝘮𝘶𝘯𝘪𝘵𝘺 𝘢𝘳𝘦 𝘸𝘢𝘳𝘮𝘭𝘺 𝘪𝘯𝘷𝘪𝘵𝘦𝘥 𝘵𝘰 𝘢𝘵𝘵𝘦𝘯𝘥.

𝗔𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗴𝘂𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝘀𝗽𝗲𝗮𝗸𝗲𝗿:
Vauldi Carelse is an accomplished media professional with more than two decades of experience in television, radio and digital journalism.
Over the course of her career, she has worked across South Africa, East Africa and the Middle East, reporting on some of the world’s most significant events for leading international news organisations, including Sky News, the BBC and China Global Television Network.
𝗦𝗵𝗲 𝗰𝘂𝗿𝗿𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗹𝘆 𝘀𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗲𝘀 𝗮𝘀 𝗔𝗳𝗿𝗶𝗰𝗮 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗱𝘂𝗰𝗲𝗿 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗦𝗸𝘆 𝗡𝗲𝘄𝘀, overseeing and shaping the broadcaster’s coverage from across the continent. Vauldi began her journalism career as a young reporter at eTV before joining the SABC, where she covered many of South Africa’s major news stories.
𝗧𝗵𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗴𝗵𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝗵𝗲𝗿 𝗰𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗲𝗿, 𝗩𝗮𝘂𝗹𝗱𝗶 𝗵𝗮𝘀 𝗯𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗲 𝗸𝗻𝗼𝘄𝗻 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗵𝗲𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗼𝘂𝗴𝗵𝘁𝗳𝘂𝗹, 𝗽𝗲𝗼𝗽𝗹𝗲-𝗰𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗲𝗱 𝗮𝗽𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗮𝗰𝗵 𝘁𝗼 𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘆𝘁𝗲𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴. Whether reporting from conflict-affected regions in Sudan, covering the aftermath of the devastating earthquakes in Türkiye, or telling deeply personal stories closer to home, she approaches every assignment with empathy, integrity and a genuine desire to help audiences better understand the people behind the headlines.
Among the stories closest to her heart are her reflections on identity as a Coloured South African and her exploration of how the threat of “Day Zero” affected communities in her hometown of Graaff-Reinet. 𝘛𝘩𝘦𝘴𝘦 𝘴𝘵𝘰𝘳𝘪𝘦𝘴 𝘳𝘦𝘧𝘭𝘦𝘤𝘵 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘤𝘶𝘳𝘪𝘰𝘴𝘪𝘵𝘺, 𝘤𝘰𝘮𝘱𝘢𝘴𝘴𝘪𝘰𝘯 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘩𝘰𝘯𝘦𝘴𝘵𝘺 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘩𝘢𝘷𝘦 𝘣𝘦𝘤𝘰𝘮𝘦 𝘩𝘢𝘭𝘭𝘮𝘢𝘳𝘬𝘴 𝘰𝘧 𝘩𝘦𝘳 𝘸𝘰𝘳𝘬.
