As the Grade 12s’ time @theunionschools rapidly nears its end, the members of the Class of 2025 came together today to sign their names to the school’s signature wall, where all our soon-to-be high school graduates leave their mark to indicate “they were here”.
At the Union Schools, we take great pride in our strong Christian ethos, which continues to guide us in all we do.
As a small reminder of this, weโre delighted to share that ๐ช.๐ช.๐.๐. bracelets, in Unionโs colours, are now available at our Clothing Shop.

We are deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Mr Tony Burrell, Union’s sixth Headmaster and a man whose vision helped shape the Union we know today.
In 1975, at just 38 years old, Mr Burrell took up the reins as Headmaster of Union High School and Superintendent of Arthur Kingwill House – roles he fulfilled with dedication and heart until 1990.
He believed strongly in the power of connection and worked to strengthen ties with Old Unionites far and wide, helping establish a National Executive for the Old Unionite Association.

The Union Schoolsโ young athletes delivered a string of outstanding performances at the annual ๐๐จ๐ก๐๐ข๐ฅ ๐๐ก๐ง๐๐ฅ๐ฆ๐๐๐ข๐ข๐๐ฆ ๐๐ง๐๐๐๐ง๐๐๐ฆ meeting held against Laer Volkskool this past Monday afternoon, 3 November.
Undeterred by the blazing sun, the schoolโs youngest learners made their mark early, with ๐ฆ๐ต๐ถ๐น๐ผ๐ต ๐ฃ๐ต๐ถ๐น๐น๐ถ๐ฝ๐, ๐๐ถ๐ฑ๐ฒ๐ป ๐๐ฎ๐ป ๐ฑ๐ฒ๐ฟ ๐ช๐ฎ๐น๐ and ๐ค๐ฎ๐๐ผ ๐๐ผ๐ผ๐ถ sprinting to victory in their respective 60m events. Van der Walt also claimed the 1st place in the 80m Boys u8 sprint, clocking a new record time of 12.38s, while ๐๐๐๐ถ๐ธ๐ฒ๐น๐ผ ๐ ๐ฑ๐น๐ฎ๐น๐ฎ๐ป๐ฎ claimed gold in the Girls u8 80m.
In the middle distances, Unionโs runners proved their endurance and determination. (Boys u13 1500m) powered through to impressive wins, while ๐๐ฎ๐ฟ๐ถ ๐ฆ๐๐ฒ๐ฟ๐ป, ๐๐บ๐ถ๐น๐ ๐ฅ๐ฎ๐ฎ๐๐ต and ๐ ๐ฎ๐ฐ๐ธ๐ฒ๐ป๐๐ถ๐ฒ ๐ฃ๐ฟ๐ฒ๐๐๐ผ๐ป earned valuable points for the team with strong podium finishes.
The field events also saw the green and white make its mark, with ๐๐ฎ๐ป๐๐ฒ ๐ ๐ถ๐น๐น๐ setting a new record in the u13 Boys Shot Put (11.50m), ๐๐ฟ๐ฎ๐ฐ๐ฒ ๐๐ถ๐๐ฐ๐ต๐ถ๐ป๐ด improving the u10 Girls High Jump record to 1,09m and ๐๐ถ๐๐ฎ ๐ ๐ฐ๐๐๐ฎ๐ป setting a new record in the u12 Girls High Jump (1.22m).
๐ก๐ผรซ๐น ๐ฆ๐ต๐ฎ๐ธ๐ฎ๐ป๐ฒ also added another record to Union’s tally, with a distance of 5.29m in the u13 Boys Long Jump.
The Union learnersโ teamwork, however, shone brightest in the relays.
The schoolโs u12 and u13 Boysโ teams both stormed to victory in their 4ร100m events, while the u13 Girlsโ team also clinched first place with an excellent 1:01.84 finish – ๐ข ๐ฉ๐ช๐จ๐ฉ๐ญ๐ช๐จ๐ฉ๐ต ๐ฎ๐ฐ๐ฎ๐ฆ๐ฏ๐ต ๐ฐ๐ง ๐ต๐ฉ๐ฆ ๐ฅ๐ข๐บ.
We’re incredibly proud of all our learners, who, despite the sun beating down on them, never let the heat slow their spirit. Their combined efforts earned the school a strong overall result of 846, just short of Volkskool’s total of 866.

The past weekend saw Union High School’s u11A and u13A cricket teams take on Woodridge College & Preparatory School in a series of fixtures.
In the ๐๐ญ๐ญ๐ T20 match on Friday, Union batted first to post 76/6 in their 20 overs, with steady contributions from Saturdayโs 25-over encounter saw Union win the toss and bat again, but Woodridgeโs disciplined bowling restricted them to 60 all out (25.2 overs).
