Marlow U/13 Rugby Festival – Results

On 27 March, we played against Monument Park and unfortunately went down 0โ€“55. The boys showed great character and resilience, bouncing back strongly on Saturday with a well-deserved 19โ€“5 victory over Frans Conradie. We played our final match on Monday, 30/03/2026, against Eikestad, where we lost 7โ€“41.

Despite the mixed results, the Marlow tour was a valuable and memorable experience for the team. The boys showed growth, determination, and great team spirit throughout, and we are proud of their effort and attitude both on and off the field.

Westering High School Rugby Festival – Results

UHS U/15 and U/16 rugby teams travelled to Gqeberha over the holidays to participate in the Westering High School Junior Rugby Festival held on 27โ€“28 March 2026.

On the opening day, both teams delivered outstanding performances against Alexander Road High School. The U/15 side secured a solid 14โ€“0 victory, while the U/16 team followed up with an impressive 31โ€“7 win. These results provided a strong start to the festival and boosted confidence heading into the second round of matches.

Day two presented a much tougher challenge, as both teams faced Hoรซrskool Otto du Plessis. The U/15 team encountered a formidable opponent and went down 0โ€“50. The U/16 side, however, put up a spirited fight and remained competitive throughout, only to lose narrowly 15โ€“22 in the closing minutes of the game.

Despite the mixed results, the festival provided valuable game time and important learning opportunities for both squads. The experience gained will no doubt contribute positively as the teams prepare for the upcoming season.

Farewell To Mrs Cloete

Today, we said goodbye to someone very special to our Union family – ๐— ๐—ฟ๐˜€ ๐—ฌ๐˜ƒ๐—ฒ๐˜๐˜๐—ฒ ๐—–๐—น๐—ผ๐—ฒ๐˜๐—ฒ – as she closes a remarkable 18-year chapter at our school.

In a deeply meaningful final assembly this morning, filled with music, small gestures and quiet emotion, learners and staff came together to honour a woman whose calm presence, unwavering consistency and gentle leadership have left a lasting mark on our Primary Department and the wider life of Union.

The assembly carried a gentle blend of celebration and emotion – our junior choir honoured Mrs Cloete with a rendition of her favourite song, ๐˜Š๐˜ถ๐˜ฑ๐˜ด, after which Mrs Cloete made her way through a guard of honour filled with smiling, emotional faces. ๐—”๐˜ ๐˜๐—ต๐—ฒ ๐—ฒ๐—ป๐—ฑ ๐—ผ๐—ณ ๐˜๐—ต๐—ถ๐˜€ ๐˜„๐—ฎ๐—น๐—ธ, ๐˜€๐—ต๐—ฒ ๐—ฟ๐—ฎ๐—ป๐—ด ๐˜๐—ต๐—ฒ ๐—–๐—ฒ๐—ป๐˜๐—ฒ๐—ป๐—ฎ๐—ฟ๐˜† ๐—•๐—ฒ๐—น๐—น, a symbolic and fitting farewell to a chapter so faithfully served.

Goals For Good: Van Wyk Theron

In a small town, a business does not earn 75 years of support by chance. It earns it through trust, service and a willingness to show up for the community, year after year.

Union High School is proud to continue our ๐—š๐—ข๐—”๐—Ÿ๐—ฆ ๐—™๐—ข๐—ฅ ๐—š๐—ข๐—ข๐—— series by recognising the generous support of ๐—ฉ๐—ฎ๐—ป ๐—ช๐˜†๐—ธ ๐—ง๐—ต๐—ฒ๐—ฟ๐—ผ๐—ป, a respected local accounting firm whose offices are situated at 38 Somerset Street, Graaff-Reinet, and which has served the community with professionalism and integrity for an extraordinary 75 years.

This partnership is made even more special by the firmโ€™s strong Union connection. Managing partner ๐—•๐—ฟ๐—ฒ๐—ป๐—ฑ๐—ผ๐—ป ๐—•๐˜‚๐—ฟ๐—ด๐—ฒ๐—ฟ, who took over from ๐——๐—ผ๐—ป ๐˜ƒ๐—ฎ๐—ป ๐—ช๐˜†๐—ธ in March this year, matriculated from Union in 1994, making him a proud Old Unionite. His familyโ€™s ties to the Union Schools run even deeper – his wife is a Grade 2 teacher at Union Preparatory School, while their four-year-old son, Nathan, has recently begun his own journey at Union Pre-School. There is always something especially meaningful about former pupils choosing to give back to the school and town that helped shape them.

Through their ๐—š๐—ข๐—”๐—Ÿ๐—ฆ ๐—™๐—ข๐—ฅ ๐—š๐—ข๐—ข๐—— pledge, Van Wyk Theron will be supporting ACVV Huis van de Graaff, an old age home in Graaff-Reinet, extending the impact of this initiative beyond the hockey field and into the heart of the wider community.

On behalf of Union High School and our 1st team hockey girls, we extend our ๐—ฆ๐—œ๐—ก๐—–๐—˜๐—ฅ๐—˜ ๐—ง๐—›๐—”๐—ก๐—ž๐—ฆ to Brendon Burger and the entire Van Wyk Theron team for their generosity, their long-standing service to Graaff-Reinet, and their support of a campaign that continues to connect sport with community in such a meaningful way.
