Union High School is delighted to continue our 𝗚𝗢𝗔𝗟𝗦 𝗙𝗢𝗥 𝗚𝗢𝗢𝗗 series by celebrating the generous support of 𝗣𝗦𝗚 𝗜𝗻𝘀𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗦𝗼𝗺𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗲𝘁 𝗦𝘁𝗿𝗲𝗲𝘁 – a team that knows success isn’t just about numbers, but about the lives you touch along the way.

In a town like Graaff-Reinet, where community and connections mean everything, PSG has consistently shown a genuine heart for our local schools and the causes that make a real difference here at home. Their support is not just a contribution; it’s a meaningful investment in the wellbeing and growth of our community.

Under the guidance of principal 𝗪𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗲𝗹 𝗟𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗺𝗮𝗻, PSG recently opened the doors of their new Somerset Street premises, continuing their tradition of offering personalised, professional financial guidance to the people of Graaff-Reinet. 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗺𝗮𝗸𝗲𝘀 𝗣𝗦𝗚’𝘀 𝗶𝗻𝘃𝗼𝗹𝘃𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗶𝗻 𝗚𝗼𝗮𝗹𝘀 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗚𝗼𝗼𝗱 𝘁𝗿𝘂𝗹𝘆 𝘀𝗽𝗲𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗶𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗮𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗯𝗲𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗶𝗿 𝗰𝗵𝗼𝘀𝗲𝗻 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗶𝘁𝘆. Through their pledge, PSG Graaff-Reinet is supporting GRAWS (Graaff-Reinet Animal Welfare Society) – a local non-profit devoted to rescuing, rehabilitating and rehoming abandoned, neglected and stray animals. From spay-a-thons to ongoing education about the humane treatment of animals, GRAWS brings care and hope to some of the most vulnerable members of our community.

𝗣𝗦𝗚 𝗵𝗮𝘀 𝗹𝗼𝗻𝗴 𝗯𝗲𝗲𝗻 𝗮 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗺𝗽𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘀𝗰𝗵𝗼𝗼𝗹𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝗚𝗿𝗮𝗮𝗳𝗳-𝗥𝗲𝗶𝗻𝗲𝘁 and we are incredibly grateful that they have chosen to stand beside our 1st team hockey girls while also supporting a cause that spreads kindness to animals in need.

𝗗𝗜𝗗 𝗬𝗢𝗨 𝗞𝗡𝗢𝗪 that Graaff-Reinet Hardware & Building Supplies cc has been serving the Graaff-Reinet community 𝘧𝘳𝘰𝘮 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘷𝘦𝘳𝘺 𝘴𝘢𝘮𝘦 𝘱𝘳𝘦𝘮𝘪𝘴𝘦𝘴 for almost 80 years?

Over the decades the business has traded under a few different names, but one thing has never changed – its deep roots in the town and its unwavering commitment to the people who live here.

For generations of locals, a trip to GRT Hardware has simply been part of life in Graaff-Reinet.

Earlier today, Union High School matric hockey players 𝗔𝗺𝘆 𝗪𝗮𝗱𝗱𝗲𝗹𝗼𝘄 and 𝗞𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗹𝘆𝗻 𝗧𝗿𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗽 stopped by the store to personally thank owners 𝗔𝗹𝗳𝗿𝗲𝗱 and 𝗝𝗮𝗰𝗾𝘂𝗲𝘀 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝗻𝗻𝗮𝗿𝗱 for pledging their support to the team’s 𝗚𝗢𝗔𝗟𝗦 𝗙𝗢𝗥 𝗚𝗢𝗢𝗗 fundraising initiative.

For the team at Graaff-Reinet Hardware, supporting young people is something that comes naturally. As they so beautifully put it: “𝘋𝘪𝘦 𝘬𝘪𝘯𝘥𝘦𝘳𝘴 𝘪𝘴 𝘰𝘯𝘴 𝘵𝘰𝘦𝘬𝘰𝘮𝘴.”

While this familiar phrase is often said in passing, it holds real meaning for them. Children represent growth, opportunity and, perhaps most importantly, hope for the future. 𝗦𝘂𝗽𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗶𝗻𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗲𝗺𝗽𝗼𝘄𝗲𝗿 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗴 𝗽𝗲𝗼𝗽𝗹𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗴𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗶𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝗮 𝗻𝗮𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗮𝗹 𝗲𝘅𝘁𝗲𝗻𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗯𝘂𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀’𝘀 𝘃𝗮𝗹𝘂𝗲𝘀.

Today the business is led by brothers Alfred and Jacques, who continue the proud legacy of service built over many decades. Under their leadership, GRT Hardware remains a trusted building supplier, known for its friendly service, knowledgeable staff and strong ties to Graaff-Reinet and the surrounding towns.

Through the Goals for Good campaign, 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗨𝗻𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗵𝗼𝗰𝗸𝗲𝘆 𝗴𝗶𝗿𝗹𝘀 𝗵𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝗶𝗻𝘃𝗶𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝗹𝗼𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗯𝘂𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗲𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝘀𝘂𝗽𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗶𝗿 𝗷𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗻𝗲𝘆 while also giving back to a charity of the sponsor’s choice.

Graaff-Reinet Hardware has chosen to support Clean Trade, an organisation doing important work to promote recycling and environmental responsibility in our town.

The response from our community to Union High Schoolt’s 1st hockey team’s 𝗚𝗢𝗔𝗟𝗦 𝗙𝗢𝗥 𝗚𝗢𝗢𝗗 campaign has been truly heartening.

We are proud to begin this series by acknowledging 𝗗𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗸 𝗟𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁 𝗔𝘁𝘁𝗼𝗿𝗻𝗲𝘆𝘀, 𝗡𝗼𝘁𝗮𝗿𝘆 & 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝘃𝗲𝘆𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲𝗿𝘀. The firm, formally established in January 1994, has – for more than three decades – been a trusted and respected part of the Graaff-Reinet community. Union is especially honoured by this long-standing connection, as both founder Derek Light and Moira Light (née Kingwill) are proud Old Unionites.
