This past Saturday, 3 February, Union High School, Graaff-Reinet’s u/15 and 1st XI cricket teams faced off against their counterparts from Cradock High School at home.
In the u/15 match, Union’s bowlers performed exceptionally well, bowling Cradock out for just 47 runs. The u/15 team quickly chased down the target, winning the match by 5 wickets. Leander Kraai was the standout player for Union, taking 5 wickets for just 20 runs in 6.2 overs. 𝘾𝙤𝙣𝙜𝙧𝙖𝙩𝙪𝙡𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣𝙨 𝙩𝙤 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙪/15 𝙩𝙚𝙖𝙢 𝙤𝙣 𝙩𝙝𝙚𝙞𝙧 𝙫𝙞𝙘𝙩𝙤𝙧𝙮!
In the 1st XI match, Union won the toss and elected to field first.
𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘷𝘪𝘴𝘪𝘵𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘵𝘦𝘢𝘮 𝘴𝘤𝘰𝘳𝘦𝘥 𝘢 𝘵𝘰𝘵𝘢𝘭 𝘰𝘧 186 𝘳𝘶𝘯𝘴 𝘪𝘯 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘪𝘳 𝘢𝘭𝘭𝘰𝘵𝘵𝘦𝘥 50 𝘰𝘷𝘦𝘳𝘴. 𝘈𝘧𝘵𝘦𝘳 𝘢 𝘣𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘬 𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘭𝘶𝘯𝘤𝘩, 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘮𝘢𝘵𝘤𝘩 𝘳𝘦𝘴𝘶𝘮𝘦𝘥 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘜𝘯𝘪𝘰𝘯 𝘮𝘢𝘯𝘢𝘨𝘦𝘥 𝘵𝘰 𝘤𝘩𝘢𝘴𝘦 𝘥𝘰𝘸𝘯 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘵𝘢𝘳𝘨𝘦𝘵 𝘤𝘰𝘮𝘧𝘰𝘳𝘵𝘢𝘣𝘭𝘺.
An opening partnership of 100 runs between Yaseen Kazi and MS de Beer set a solid foundation for the team. Yaseen played an outstanding innings, scoring 60 runs off 95 balls. Tristan Hulleman was Union’s best bowler in the match, taking 3 wickets for just 4 runs in 2.5 overs. Yaseen Kazi was named the Player of the Match for his all-round performance, scoring 60 runs and taking 2 wickets in 10 overs for 30 runs. 𝗨𝗻𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝘄𝗼𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗰𝗵 𝗯𝘆 𝟲 𝘄𝗶𝗰𝗸𝗲𝘁𝘀. 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝗴𝗿𝗮𝘁𝘂𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗿𝗲 𝘁𝗲𝗮𝗺 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗶𝗿 𝗰𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗲𝗳𝗳𝗼𝗿𝘁!
Overall, it was a successful day for the Union cricket teams, with both the u/15 and 1st XI securing victories. Well done to all the players!
