After several weeks of rain keeping them off the cricket field, Union High Schoolโs U13A cricketers were more than ready to get back into the game this past holiday at the ๐๐ฟ๐ฒ๐๐ฐ๐ต๐น๐ฒ๐ ๐ง๐ผ๐๐ฟ๐ป๐ฎ๐บ๐ฒ๐ป๐ ๐ถ๐ป ๐๐ป๐๐๐ป๐ฎ.
The tournament gave them just that opportunity, with four competitive matches over three days – and a few close finishes along the way!
Union opened with a 49-run defeat to Courtrai U13A in a 40-over match. ๐๐ฟ๐ฎ๐ป๐ ๐ ๐๐ฟ๐ฟ๐ฎ๐ remained unbeaten on 27, while ๐๐ฑ๐๐ถ๐ป ๐๐ผ๐น๐บ๐ฒ๐ claimed 4/27 and ๐ฆ๐ถ๐ป๐๐ฎ๐๐ ๐๐ฎ๐ถ๐๐ฟ๐ผ took 3/33.
Day two brought an agonisingly narrow two-run loss to Sweet Valley Primary, despite an excellent 3/8 from ๐๐ฒ๐๐ถ๐ป ๐ฑ๐ฒ ๐๐น๐ฒ๐ฟ๐ธ. Later that day, Edwin struck an impressive ๐ฒ๐ต ๐ผ๐ณ๐ณ ๐ฑ๐ฒ ๐ฏ๐ฎ๐น๐น๐ against Laerskool De Hoop, although their opponents went on to win by six wickets.
The boys saved their winning finish for the final match, securing a Edwin again led the batting with ๐ฑ๐ฏ ๐ผ๐ณ๐ณ ๐ฏ๐ฑ ๐ฏ๐ฎ๐น๐น๐, helping Union post 115 before the team successfully defended their total. A close game going Unionโs way was a lovely way to round off the tour.
Well done to our U13A boys on their efforts throughout the three days – there is plenty here to build on as the season continues!
